Cool. That's why I don't recall hearing it. PM incoming.I thought it was on First Blood...not so. That's a great CD but it actually was found on a blues slide sampler from Icehouse. P2 53555
If you can't find it. PM me and I'll hook you up.
One cover not mentioned so far is Theme from an Imaginary Western (Jack Bruce RIP) Cream was good but I prefer to hear it from Mountain.
Ever watch the video of Jack Bruce and Rory Gallagher doing Politician ? Ten minutes well spent. Two guys enjoying playing together. Rory kicks Eric's part up a couple of notches. A great pairing.
My program segment was called Cover to cover. One just leads to another. So many and everybody has an opinion.
They are a damn good cover band when they decide go that route. I really dig their take on Politician.Over the last several days I've been listening to a lot of live Los Lobos and have concluded that I prefer LL's (live) rendition of "Bertha".

And that's what my politics are.re: "The Politician", I just today listened to a damned fine cover of that number by Gov't Mule. Not that either -- Los Lobos or Gov't Mule -- rendition is superior to any of several "live" versions I've heard by Cream. Cream: it's pretty hard to "best" the best.
True that.re: "The Politician", I just today listened to a damned fine cover of that number by Gov't Mule. Not that either -- Los Lobos or Gov't Mule -- rendition is superior to any of several "live" versions I've heard by Cream. Cream: it's pretty hard to "best" the best.
True that.
I think what grabbed me with the Lobos version was the two guitar thing.
I wonder if there's a Lobos cover versions ROIO comp out there? Somebody put together a bunch of Black Crowes ones a few years ago, called Cover Me In A Good Dream. I bet a Lobos one would be fantastic.
That would be a cool idea. With them being taper friendly, and having a devoted fan-base, I'm surprised that there isn't already on out there. If there isn't, we should "make" one. Heck, there's even a covers comp by Nirvana (Smells Like Nirvana) that used to be out in the ether, but I reckon Courtney has done whatever it took to "disappear" that collection. (it is actually quite good here 'n' there)
And of course this brings up Trane's take on My Favorite Things. Can't see anybody topping that one.
I must jump in ....Gerry is on the stereo and just ripped a stunning version of CC RIDER from some concert 6-85 this is my vote ,,,for now![]()
That would probably be amazing. Not to mention a huge job.PS: I think also in order is a "live" covers comp by Gov't Mule. Is there anyone these guys don't cover (and cover well)?
Ha ha, we posted at the same time. Check out the setlist above.Trying to recall if I've ever heard any band, any genre, attempt to cover Zappa @ the live setting. Nothing (immediately) comes to mind. (with the exception of his son, Dweezil)
