Yes, that would be one way of doing it. One signal wire, one common, and two connected only at the source end as ground plane.
Another way would be to connect two as ground, and two as signal, with the two ground wires connected at both ends, and the two signal wires of course also at both ends.
When I get a chance I will open up my Kimber Hero and see how they do it.
Kimber PBJ uses two wires as ground and one as signal.
Kimber Timbre uses one wire as ground and two for signal.

Thanks Rob; it would be good to see how an OEM does it.
I have found some Neotech Solid UPOCC Copper in Teflon 24 AWG wire, for what seems to be a reasonable price ($1.02 / foot) and some quality Neotech RCA male connectors. I will make (4) pairs of interconnects - I am biamping and using a mishmash of cables.

The RCA plugs were very nice to work with - they are beefy as anything, and were under $10/pair. They are on closeout at http://www.soniccraft.com/
They are *slightly* larger than the "standard" plug spacing on some components.

I finally got around to this. The Hero cables that are terminated with Ultraplate connectors have the solder connectors covered with heat shrink, so you can't see what's going on. But the ones terminated with WBT connectors are easy to check out.
The Verdict: Two signal wires, and two ground wires. Well, that makes sense.
