Any Plastic Knobs/Levers on Yamaha's A-S2000??

I'll about to purchase both the Yamaha A-S2000 and CD-S2000 units in BLACK, once I receive my tax return. I've switched over to Yamaha back in 1987 and been with them ever since and I love that I still have most of my gear from that time, still in working condition.

This will be my main 2 channel system, which I hope will last up to 20 plus years.

My only concern about this unit are the Bass, Treble and Balance knobs... Are they metal or plastic like the ones on the A-S700??

I could be wrong, but the Selector and Volume knobs appear to me metal, but just looking at the Yamaha's website, the bass, treble and balance knobs "appears" to be the same untreated plastic knobs used on their far cheaper A-S700 and A-S500 models, which are the only 2 models I've seen in person and touched.

Can anybody confirm if the bass, treble and balance knobs on the BLACK version of the A-S2000 are in fact plastic or made of higher quality metal/alloy??

At the price of over $2,000.00, it should be metal or a alloy type product.

If the BLACK bass/treble/balance knobs are the same cheap plastic ones used on the A-S700/500 models, I'll most likely pass on them and start looking at either one of the Luxman or the new Onkyo "retro" styled 2 channel amps... Sorry Yamaha, but I'm still hoping that they are made out of metal or some other type of alloy product.

Also, does anybody know a shop in the Seattle, Washington area that carries both the Yamaha A-S2000 and CD-S2000??

Thank you for looking!!

Too bad they put flat "knobs" for tone & balance, and round "knobs" for source selection &ctera. Exactly the opposite to what they should be (can they be switched?).

i've been eying one of those since i first saw one. the knobs are fine with me ;) i also heard about the HK 990 today -- perhaps better built, but i prefer the looks of the Yamaha.

We've had that knob discussion before, but I'll add that I wish they had carried the wood panels to the front like the 2000 series.

The question is, for that huge hunk of change, how does it sound compared to the classic stuff like a reconditioned CA-2010 or A-1000?

I hope not worse, but could it sound better? I've been fishing for an answer to that question for a long time.

I don't know but it has one feature that no vintage Yamaha had, afaik, and that's fully balanced/differential internal circuitry.

It sure is pretty. Though you'd have to take into account that something like the CA-2010 can be had for less than a quarter of the price if comparing.

I say that with some bias as I just recently acquired my CA-2010:) I went vintage because getting something of that quality in modern hi-fi I'm told would've cost much, much more.

Though I certainly wouldn't mind having that A-S2000 hanging around my house.

"Modern" hi-fi gear comes in the used variety too. ;)

I really like Yamaha gear, though the only piece I currently own is the DVD-S2700 (incredible player!)

There is a lot of used modern hi-fi for sale at good prices. I realy want to try out the S2000 but I love my Krell and as a bonus the Krell is made in USA. I am a big believer in purchasing used equipment. It allows you to try components in your own environment and generally not lose a penny when/if you resell it.

I talked to Walter at underwoodhifi.com and he had a yamaha a-s2000 and Luxman l550 in for trade-ins and they compared the two and the yamaha a-s2000 sounded better than the $$$4800 Luxman l550 ! .If you do a google search for....Yamaha A-S2000 REVIEW ON AUDIOGON .They have a good review on this amp on audiogon

It looks like these yamaha a-s2000's need a lot hours on them to sound their best. Someone just posted on the review of this amp on the audiogon.com that he now has had his yamaha a-s2000 for four months. He said, it sounds like "No Amp"! Getting totally out of the way! It makes me feel that it just lets the music through, as it is recorded with no effect at all ! Turn it on, forget about it and enjoy your music ! A really great amplifier ! Just do a google search for... YAMAHA A-S2000 REVIEW ON AUDIOGON .And read the full review on this great amp there.

Someone on another forum liked the Yamaha a-s2000 better than a Naim Supernait ! The Supernait is one of the best Integrated amps... money can buy !.. A french reviewer just loved the yamaha a-s2000. He was using some Verity Audio Parsifal Ovation ($25,000) and these speakers are hard to drive too ....sensitivity is only 85.0db. He said the yamaha a-s2000 was an incredible value...compare it to integrated amps in the $5,000 to $7,000 range !.. A Classic that we will talk about for a long time! The yamaha a-s2000 puts out 190 watts as you can see in this review here... http://www.goodgearguide.com.au/review/home_entertainment/yamaha/a-s2000/259907 .Reviewer Jochen Reinecke from 6moons uses a Yamaha a-s2000 as part of this Reference gear seen here ... http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/heed/1.html

I got my Yamaha a-s2000 today and I'm SHOCKED at how good it sounds !... It sounds much more like a really good CLASS A AMP like the Luxman L590a mk2 or Accuphase! This amp does run a little WARM. This yamaha amp is a GOOD MATCH with my Bose 901's too! I can see why some RAVE about this a-s2000 now! WOW...:music: .One more thing about this yamaha amp....you CAN NOT hook up the bose equalizer through the main-in and pre-out hook ups on this amp. I had to hook up mine between my satellite receiver and my CD inputs on my yamaha amp. (UPDATE) The more I listen to the Yamaha a-s2000 the amazed I am !... The sound quality is just amazing for the price that yamaha is selling it !....I don't know how they did it !.. Normally you would have to pay A LOT OF MONEY to get sound and built quality like this now !.. Yamaha seems to achieved their goal by giving us the best of both worlds (tubes and solid state) with the A-S2000 Integrated amp !.. The A-S2000 is a match made in heaven with the NEW BOSE 901 series 6 version 2's too !.. Everything sounds SO SPOOKY REAL now !.. I get that"YOU ARE THERE FEELING"when listening to music now !.. I think this is an AMAZING achievement for Yamaha at a AMAZING PRICE !.... (UPDATE) . I'm going to try one of these new HiFi Tuning Supreme fuses in this amp later on.... http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue54/fuses.htm

i'd love to have one of those!

The Absolute Polarity Tweak sounds great with these a-s2000's. ... My amp even runs COOLER now with this tweak!

switching polarity may be audible but in no way could possibly affect power output (and thus heat output). :scratch2: i think you're probably mistaken, at least about the source of the heat difference.

It ran just a little bit cooler like that but I now have the a-s2000 on the floor out in the open and its not running as hot as it was before.....
