Any Reel guys interested in a tape swap?

I think if we target getting tapes recorded and ready to send out on Monday August 10th and make every other Monday our shipping date, tapes will arrive by that upcoming weekend and it gives 2 weekends and weekdays in between to get a good listen in. Make sense to everyone else?

Looks like we have hit 6 participants and that sounds like a good number to roll with. I am waiting on an address for the latest to join and I will get a rotation map together of who mails to who and message everyone. I will be getting Media Mail costs together in about an hour when I run out to lunch.

So it seems that our mailing options are as follows - using USPS ground advantage would run between $10 and $12 and sending priority mail would be about 11 to 16 dollars. It would take the same time to use either method to deliver which is going to be 2 to 3 days. Sending Media Mail it's going to be about $4.39.

Jumping on recording already. Coffee and music to start the day.

Recorded, I’m on the plane right now and cannot wait to ship it out when I arrive on 8/17.

We also seem to have matching take up reels!

In golf terms a round robin with a shotgun start. Eveyone records a 10.5 reel at 7.5ips, then we all send our tapes to the next guy in the circle. These make the rounds until your tape comes back to you. Music is of the recorders choice. That way we hear different kinds of music, we hear stuff recorded on different machines and on different type tape. I'm already doing this with some other guys, so the more the merrier. What do you think?

Well that was 20 years ago and not everyone has a 10" tape deck. It's also easier/cheaper to send a 7" tape. @Music Maker are you interested in participating? The current round is about finished (another week or so).

I missed the last round but would definitely be interested in a 10.5"/15ips tape swap. I have a 15ips master tape of a fairly unknown country artist that I bought just to hear what a studio master sounded like (what you would expect very rich sound, tons of life and texture). The music is decent too, if you don't mind a bit of religion injected into your music. (edit... the master also has test tones recorded at the studio, so that's a nice bonus for anyone without an expensive MRL tape!)

Would be great if we could do a 10.5/15ips swap with masters and factory pre-recordeds, but I imagine the cost of acquisition of pre-recordeds/masters would make anyone hesitant to mail off into the ether.

However, if there are a few folks willing to participate, I'd be game. I'd also be willing to do in person time limited swaps in the greater NYC area.

As tapes are making their way home from the current round, we are ready to get prepared for the next round! Anyone else interested in joining this time? This is for 7", 7.5ips, 4 track. Maybe target a start date of November 2?
