Any subwoofer recommendations?

Hi, I'm looking to buy a good price/performance subwoofer to extend the bottom end of my (active) Focal Alpha 65 connected with Allen&Heath xone 43 and also for my (passive) Dali 450 connected with Denon pma 680r.

I know there are pro audio and PA system subwoofers with XLR that can easily be connected with my Focals but they don't seem to have speaker cable terminals, and also vice versa.

I really want an active sub for both these appications but does that even exist?

Depends on budget, I like Rythmik Audio for mid priced models, Dayton Audio for budget minded.

The Rythmik Audio F12SE is outstanding

Dayton Audio Sub 1200, at the price I suggest getting two, although one will rock the foundation.

While this might not fit your configuration requirements, it certrainly is one to consider in respect to budget and specs. I am considering it for my main video system because of the preliminary reviews before it's public release.

The RSL Speedwoofer 12S.

Based on the reviews, the impact is great for a sub that is direct priced at $799. It is also has wireless capability {so placement considerationsions are not a concer if you get the adaptor] ,4 DSP modes and a remote with a display.

I liked the M&K subs I had in my RV's. The dual 8" was all I needed . HT systems I calibrated for customers I much preferred the Dual 12 " subs M&K was making at the time. 90's and early 2000's. We had Klipsch, Mcintosh, RTR, Cerwin Vega and a few others that kind of came and went. The electronic modules in the Klipsch did hold up that well and most subs at the time sounded like they were only producing one note. Bose comes to mind. Today I guess I would look for some of the later Jl Subs pre-owned or professional dual 15 inch JBL subs that require a Crown amplifier for large systems. But on the whole a couple of the latest dual 12 inch M&K subs would be where I would start if I wanted subs. I haven't used subs since I got my first HT system for my home system. 16 12 inch woofers is enough for me. Yes the system rolls of starting just below 25 HZ and thats good enough for me. I am not into all the techno-geek movies. THough I do enjoy a good Star Wars movie once in a while. Sky Walker Sound does by far the best multi channel sound tracks.
 
Thanks for the interesting recommendations! But just to be more specific, I'd love to get a 1000$ sub, but my salary won't let me... so it's around 500 more or less. Depends on what the cool factor is :-)

For example the new RSL Speedwoofer 10s mkii was on my list of options.

Thanks for the reply twiiii, I'd also like one that goes below 25Hz. Although I think I want to much out of a 10" and maybe I should look at bigger sizes... Do i need to consider the relation between the speaker sizes and the subwoofer size? I thought 12" might be to big for my 6.5 speaker drivers...

I'm a huge fan of using two connected in stereo and why I recommend the Dayton, and two are within your budget.

I have several subwoofers, I also have two of the earlier model of the Dayton Audio Sub 1200, they're currently connected with the mains in the multi-channel system. They make great speaker stands also, connected in stereo preserved the Heresy sound only BIGGER now with 25hz on tap.

That was an old setup, I've had the Daytons for 10yrs and still cranking.

Now with Jamo C-103's in the media rm.

The sub in the middle is part of the Infinity Modulus System with the speakers on the stands.

Actually speakers with smallish mid/bass are a perfect match with subwoofers. The Infinity Modulus have 5.25" mid/bass, the Jamo C-103 have a 7" mud/bass, both are mated to 12" subs.
 
+1 on stereo subs, one playing left channel only, the other right channel only, and located appropriately.

Hsu is one solid manufacturer.

I haven't seen an XLR line level/speaker level connectivity combo. I greatly prefer speaker-level for stereo, in my situation, at least.

I have the RSL Speedwoofer 10S. The 12 should be outstanding for you. And my wireless transmitter works great, too.

Add my name to the list of those recommending the Dayton Sub1200. Get two. You'll never regret it. Plus, for the cost you'll be able to acquire some new music to demo your new subwoofers.
