Ok, so tonight I took the plunge and ordered the Foreplay III/Paramour II package deal. I almost exclusively order online due to convenience, but I wanted to talk to the folks at Bottlehead, so I called in the order. You guys who said Eileen is a sweetheart were dead-on; she was so friendly and helpful it was amazing. When I asked if she could recommend some speakers she put me on with Doc (I think?), who was equally friendly and enthusiastic and answered about 20 minutes worth of questions I had. It's so nice when someone you're buying from actually sounds interested in talking about the product, and then some. We even discussed my Wright 200C phono preamp for a bit.
Now the hard part: waiting. She said expect it to take about a month, or perhaps they'll be able to send the parts sans wood boards until a later point. I asked Doc what the big deal is with single ended triodes just to see what he'd say, and he insisted that especially for vinyl playback this type of system is the only way to go. In any case, I bet it will eventually be a far cry from my Outlaw receiver, although that sounds great to me. I asked a little about modding too, and he said I shouldn't be concerned with that at this point, and that a lot of the modifications make audible, but nevertheless small improvements in the sound.
I'm so excited I can't even sit still.
