Any Vintage Onkyo Owners?

I have the ubiquitous T-9090MkII. Fine tuner, great for long-distance reception. At night, I can get San Francisco stations clearly, from 200 miles away... then a storm shows up and I get nothing, but that's true of every tuner I own.

onkyo is the shizznit

i have an onkyo tx-8500 MkII, and tx-7000, tx-5000 and a 2500MkIIi would not sell/trade any of them for anything, they sound simply amazing!!! ALL in mint condition.

I've got the TX-8550 Mk II that PaulFXL found for me.....but the FM Presets do not lock into place and I'm trying to find a "parts" unit to repair it with. If you have one, PM me and let's talk!

Tx-4500

Hey All!

Not really sure where to get started on these boards, so I hope everyone will be patient. This thread seems as likely as any as I recently came into possession of an Onkyo TX-4500 (and a pair of Jensen TF-3As). I found these while cleaning up Dad's attic (slow down, Dad is 70 and I'm 45). I was really into audio gear back in the mid-70's when I was a teenager (who wasn't?!). These pieces were just lying there and I made the suggestion that I'd buy them. Dad said to just take them away!

I'm hoping I can find some resouces for this receiver. It's got a cracked plexi-glass face plate with a small piece of it actually missing, so it has to be replaced. The meters work, all the lights work and it's sounds so strong! (much better than the Kenwood KR-4070 I had back in my youth). I've opened it up and cleaned out the cobwebs, gave it a good look just to be sure and buttoned it all up and it fired right up.

Ownership of this baby makes me new to vintage audio, so I'm also looking for a source where I can get smarter about how to care for them and also to do a better job of cleaning them up. Isopropanol and q-tips can only do so much.

Any ideas, comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I recently acquired an Onkyo TX-8500, in excellent condition. I did give it a test run a few days ago and it did sound pretty good. What really impressed me was the build quality, excellent, especially for a receiver only rated 110wpc. Dual trannies, heavy as a boat anchor. I probably will eventually incorporate it into one of my systems.

Not that vintage. Is the main system in the living room. Kids have access to it, M501, P301, T403, DX-C206, TA203. Been a great system. The 5 disc changer gives me a problem once in a while.

TX-8500 is supposed to be very fine. A guy I don't remember his handle over at AA said it was one of the best receivers.
I still have the TX-7000 and it is a great sounding receiver.

I have the TX 2000 receiver. Nice 27 wpc with a good FM section. Very well built and nice sounding unit. Look pretty nice too. For some reason I just don't have it in any of my setups for a long time.

have two tx-8500 units :D and love them both!!! picked up a 1500mkII today for $26.00 just to try a low powered unit. well see :thmbsp:

I had problems receiving my jazz station 88.3 fm in the Brooklyn New York area, largely because of what I believe are pirate statios in the local area. I have several receivers:Sansui 8080,4000,7070;pioneer780; Tube tuners:General Electric Fa-11;Scott 310-B. None of them could resolve the problem to my satisfaction. I saw a Onkyo T-4 tuner on EBay. I bought it for $40.00. The tuner is mint and the sound is wonderful plus I can now tune to my favorite station. I connect the tuner to a modified Eico 2536 tube receiver(el84 output). This tuner is my best hifi experience for the longest while.

Mine is an A-7 integrated amp that still plays fine except for an occasional need for Deoxit on the selector switch and balance control. DC offset is under 15 mV, too. Along with the amp is a T-4040 tuner, used mostly to receive a local, ad-free, classical music station. .

My other unit is a TX-41 receiver, which I use to provide sound for DVD's in a bedroom.

I've got a T-4090 boxed up and ready to ship to PunkerX as a donation to AK. It is a fine tuner (TOTL of their analogs) but I've got more than I need at the moment and have been intending to make a contribution to the board. It may not go out until next weekend though because of urgent eBay purchases have sapped the fun money funds.

He said he would check the alignment than offer it up with proceeds to go to AK.

I have a TX-2500. Looks and works great. Small tuner is fine as I am in an apartment but I will eventually upgrade to something more powerful.

I just recieved an onkyo m-5060 amp and a p-3060 pre-amp today. Can't wait to try them out. I have an onkyo a-10 integrated amp with a matching t-9 tuner in one of my systems. I have a tx-8500 in the office. Also have an a-8190 that I bought new around 1987 and a tx-2000 which was part of my first system around 1980.

I've since given the TX-8500MkII to SPL dB, and just this past week or two sold both the M-5160 and M-5140 on eBay.
I still have the two very fine T-9 tuners, and a T-4090 tuner. I do have the lightly damaged TX-7000--the thing plays incredibly well, and sure would be a contender for best-sounding 75-100 wpc receiver.

Some dadgummed nice gear y'all have!

I've been keeping an eye open for an 8500mkII. Just curious how it compares to the old 8500. Bully how did the tuner section compare between the 7000 and the 8500mkII?

Still have my Oinko TA-630D. Very nice cassette deck which I suppose I should bring up from the bowels of the basement.

Had one of their tuners for about an hour in the 70's. Bought it at Sound of Music (Best Buy's earlier incarnation) and found I didn't think it worked as well as the tuner stage on my Marantz 2215. So I took it back, and ran the 2215 into my Sony integrated as the tuner.

So can any of you Onkyo dudes help me with a service manual or diagrams for the P3090 preamp and (particularly) M3090 power amp, pleeeease???!

:ntwrthy:

I have an M504 amp and M503 preamp and eq35 equalizer...I lucked out at the flea mkt...paid $30 for each piece...there were some dirty pots and some lights were out...
fixed in no time and darn...I love this stuff...not precisely 'vintage' but close enough...
