Anyone considering the new Ford Maverick?

If I was not set on going EV in the spring I would probably be looking as an option. Now an EV version from the Mach-E tech

I believe the Maverick shares it's standard ( entry level ) hybrid engine with other Ford SUV's and the Eco boost engine with the Bronco. I understand you have to get on a waiting list for either. The appeal will be to the youthful non truck owners who need a dual purpose vehicle for a growing family (comfortably seats five) to drive to work, with great gas milage and the ability to haul large loads, bikes, and sports gear on the weekend. It has no truck frame so it's said to have a nice SUV like ride.

Would not be surprised if Ford strikes gold with a new market segment which could end up making the Maverick a top seller in US history. Remember the 64 1/2 Mustang?

Ford is very close. If they can capture commercial crossover sales, they will have a real winner. Add re-inforced station wagon roof with optional lumber rack that will fit 4 x 8 plywood sheet. Offer option of two door station wagon / van with window delete.

Not sure eco with GDI is the answer for commercial, too many long term maintenance issues.

I've got an eye on the new 2022 Maverick as well - (I did have a 70 6cyl Maverick back in the day).
If they come out with an EV version of it I'd STRONGLY consider buying one,
once they've been on the market for a year or so.
Hauling mulch or the occasional large speaker - looks perfect!

The Lariat Luxury package even includes a Full Size Spare - Amazing!

Is that 40 MPG highway or combined, or is it the hybrid MPG?

Honda Ridgeline is the same FWD/AWD concept and has been on the market for a decade.
I guess it sold well enough to keep it around for a second generation.

I'd be very interested if they offered a small displacement, turbo 4 cyl with a manual trans like my 2015 Jeep Renegade.
It's fun to drive, can keep up with Camaros and Mustangs and I'm getting 35 MPG average.
The only thing I'm missing is a bed.
Mine came with no spare, but I just bought an OEM wheel on ebay for $100 and put on a "take off" from my recent front tire replacement.
IIRC the full size spare option for both was in the $400 range.

I think Ford has a great idea in introducing a reasonably sized truck, that gets good gas mileage, and is capable of hauling a sheet of plywood.
My 2003 S-10 works out wonderfully when I need to haul plywood, lumber, mulch, etc.
I would consider replacing it with a Maverick.

My, how we've grown!

I really want to see one in person.Ive priced one out with the goodies id like.bigger motor, real tranny,4000lb towing cap,fx4 package, etc .Cost approx 32300 cnd .About 30 to 40 grand less than a real 1/2 ton.I think their missing the mark by not offering the small foreign market eco diesel like my brother had in his transit over in England though.

Get ride of the four doors and make a longer bed I would.
The only way I'd ever consider a new "Maverick" is if it was available with a regular cab and a bigger bed. As shown? No thanks. I really liked my old Ranger that had the longer 7' bed. To me, it was the ideal small pickup for what I used it for.

Exactly, people have been wanting this forever and manufactures keep not listening and putting out what millions do not want which is a truck you can actually reach in the bed and grab stuff out of which no one makes anymore.

I have a 99 B4000 four wheel drive tow package came with the big wheels extra cab minus the rear half doors which is just another rattle point when they get old. I am 5,7 and can gab a pin from the middle of the bed without any special effort other than leaning over on my tippy toes. This I can use is and can tow my 5,000 lb boat no problem.

Until they make something comparable I will hold my 300K mile truck together with duct tape if I have to because its functional to me as I am always using the bed. They will always hold their value and even if I had to put 10 grand into it is still cheaper and more functional than new trucks with bed rails almost as tall as my roof.

Millions do not want it or they would be doing it. Thousands on versions forums? I will give you that.

Edit: this is probably as good as it will get. A shift that way a couple yrs down the road would be cool. Different configurations if it does good. And I think it will.

The US consumers are a dumb bunch... Ford will sell a shitload of these baby trucks... Oh wait honda ridgeline owns that market already!

Looks like a similar idea to the 4 door Subaru Baja that they made from 2003-2006 - doesn't it? Maybe the Maverick is a little bigger. I bought a Subaru Baja new in 2006 (5=speed manual gear box, turbo engine) and that was a fun vehicle that was versatile and got good gas mileage. Subaru didn't sell very many of them and DC'd the Baja. It only sat 4 people though.

Disagree, millions buy because they have no other choice its been this way for a long time as with lots of vehicles we are told what we want by manufactures and have to buy what they make.
