Anyone else call Direct TV over Fox?

Now that is seems to be settled between Direct TV and FOX. Did anyone else call and tell Direct TV you would move service if they lost the FOX channels?

Told my phone contact that they could sue me for the rest of my contract if i lost channels. Plus other providers were willing to go up to $600.00 in credits if you moved.

Nope.

Same old network arm-wrestling. Fox thinks they're worth a lot more than they are and DirecTV is ready to let them walk.

Don't get me wrong, I love FX, but I already pay plenty for DirecTV. Certainly don't need to pay and extra couple bucks on top just for new Fox pricing...or ABC, or anybody else for that matter

I got along fine without TV when camping last week so when this contract is up next year might not renew.

I just wounder what the CEO at DirecTV makes anyway? The last I've seen was 26.4 Mil in 2007.

This constant bickering was the reason I left Dish after 11 years. For once I actually took my Sat providers side on this, after doing a ton of research. I will tell you from experience with Dish, when I left, they transfer you to a customer mediator and you pretty much have carte blanche of what channels you want for free when you choose to terminate your service with them. The lady on the phone offered every channel available for a year if I opted to stay.

They offered me something close to that but required another year contract. So I passed for now.

Hey if they took FOX off Comcast I would be delighted.

If it was only FOX! But it was going to be FX and National Geographic channels along with FOX.

Who cares how much the CEO of DirecTV makes? That has ZERO to do with the issue at hand

This is a simple "How much per subscriber" fight. DirecTV has to pay every single provider a certain amount per month per subscriber...and they made Fox an offer that they thought was in line with what they pay their other providers based on viewership. Fox didn't like it, so they tried to play chicken with DirecTV...and lost, and in the process threw enough anti-DirecTV rhetoric out there to damage their bargaining position for next time

I don't have a dog in this fight personally, just a DirecTV subscriber for many years and have seen this sort of thing come and go dozens of times...

The amounts the officers are compensated come from the fees charged for services right? I would have sympathy if the officers were not making a killing off my monthly fees.

With the amounts charged for commercial time then why are the subscribers still paying so much?

The open letter set to me by the CEO of Direct TV where he was putting the blame on FOX's greed but left them out of the loop just pissed me off more.....

I was more worried about Nat Geo and Speed. But the part that kills me is that I've had DirecTV for years, over 15 years I'm pretty sure, and they've never sought my advice or approval for the constant jacking of my monthly rate. The little blurb they were running said NewsCorp wanted to raise the rate on about a half dozen channels by 40%. OMG! That's what, $1.50/month tacked onto my bill? DirecTV raises my bill by that much a couple times a year and never goes through the histrionics that this increase precipitated.

Give me a break.

Just got this email .

QUOTE :

Dear Customer,

As you may have heard, DIRECTV has been in talks with News Corp./Fox about continuing to carry Fox-owned channels. We're pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached. There will be NO service interruption. All channels will remain on the air, including:

FX
National Geographic Channel
Nat Geo WILD
SPEED
FUEL TV
FOX Soccer
FOX Soccer Plus
FOX Deportes
Fox regional sports networks
Fox News channel
Fox Broadcasting (FOX)
Fox Business Network
Fox Movie Channel
Your local FOX station

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Sincerely,

DIRECTV

being on FIOS, I don't have a dog in this fight. I know I'd be livid if I lost SPEED, and FOX News is always good for a belly laugh when I need one, even without Glenn Beck:lmao:

If you're looking for a real good laugh, watch Chris Matthews the " I got this thrill up my leg" guy on MSNBC. :D

I have to side with the consumer and directv on this. A 40 percent increase for fox channels no way, I am glad Directv stood their ground.

They didn't say they stood their ground, just that they evidently didn't cave in for the entire 40%. I expect my bill will increase.

I only get

FX
National Geographic Channel
Nat Geo WILD
SPEED
FUEL TV

from the list.

The network Fox was never on the table, and I don't think Fox News was.

That represents a few percent of the channels I get. Say my bill was $100/mo, for ease of math. That means the channels in question make up maybe $6 dollars worth of my bill. Even if the increase was 50%, my bill would go up $3/month. DirecTV has jacked me up more than $3/month more times than I can count.

I'm not saying I'm happy that DirecTV will once again raise my rate, and I'm not happy that NewsCorp is getting more money (probably looking at some large fines/lawsuits over the whole cell phone hacking deal) from me, I just think DirecTV blew this thing way out of proportion. And so did NewsCorp and Dish. They kept running ads saying that I was going to LOSE THESE CHANNELS unless I switched to Dish. Well guess what. Dish did the same friggin thing this time last year!

If I could pull a few more of the local channels OTA, I'd drop my satelite dish right now. Somehow we need to be able to buy channels a la carte instead of a load of crap we don't watch. ( I pretty much hate the local cable provider, too.)

Considering direct paid around a billion last year to newscorp a 40% increase is a lot of dough. I still say they stood their ground no 40% increase, going into this I knew there would be some increase just that is a crazy increase.

Yeah, if I got every channel listed, then I would be looking at a $15/mo increase.

Do you have some insight into how much DirecTV ended up paying? 5% increase? 25% increase? 39% increase?

That would not help me any. I get the major networks. I also get some independents, but they are useless.

We dumped cable last year because the lame content was not worth it. The only thing I miss about not having cable, is no ESPN.

At least there is netflix and redbox.

That would be nice. Cable TV without any shopping, news, or the weather channel! This will not happen. If we paid only for the channels we wanted, the providers would go broke, or at least they would not make the huge profits they are currently raking in.
