Anyone else call Direct TV over Fox?

Now that is seems to be settled between Direct TV and FOX. Did anyone else call and tell Direct TV you would move service if they lost the FOX channels?

Told my phone contact that they could sue me for the rest of my contract if i lost channels. Plus other providers were willing to go up to $600.00 in credits if you moved.

Nope. There's a clause in satellite tv contracts that allows them to add or remove channels without refund. The only channel that I was miffed about losing was FoxSportsDetroit for the hockey games.

Up until a year ago, we had Big Dish C/Ku band satellite, which did offer ala-carte programming. Sadly, that ended last Nov when Motorola stopped providing the 'mapping' service that allowed for home subscriptions.

I know but was willing to have them come after me for the rest of my contract. I was lucky to have less then a year left so the amount is not that much.

The thought of losing FX FMC and NGC and maybe picking up another shopping or religious channel or two was enough to make me call and let them know this.

Yeah, if I got every channel listed, then I would be looking at a $15/mo increase.

Do you have some insight into how much DirecTV ended up paying? 5% increase? 25% increase? 39% increase?

Not trying to start a pissing match, if that is how I came off I am sorry. I haven't found the increase I am sure it will come out eventually, so can we call a truce? Remember this all audio no attitude here on AK, if my tude was wrong again I am sorry.

No, no, not at all. My animosity towards DirecTV goes back a looong time, sorry if I channeled some of that your way.

Regardless of how the negotiations between DirecTV and NewsCorp went, the consumer will end up with the short end of the stick.

This is the truth for sure.

Now that it's over, what did they say when you told them that? :scratch2:

Ten dollars a month off, also another HD DVR and another HD receiver at no extra cost if I extended a year. I just took the ten bucks and will wait out the contract.

Will see when the next bill comes in.

Really! I guess it is worth calling! I 'll have to try that next time. I didn't get the HD/DVR last year and I regret it.

Try going after the whole house system, were you can watch the DVR shows in the other rooms. They will want you to extend you contract, but I'm going to wait and see if I can get a better deal. Mention you now have uverse available or soon will have. Seems to get results....

You guys don't know how lucky you are. We get a certain base package for a monthly fee, but then get charged for each additional channel we pick, which basically is most of the good channels. You want Fox? You pay for it. You want Nat Geo? That's another fee added on top. You want Discovery Channel? That's yet another fee added to the monthly charge. The sports channels are each another charge. Disney is another charge, and so on... It's nice to have flexibility, and if it meant that you only pay for what you want, it would be okay, but add 'em all up (if you pick any!) and you're paying a LOT for what you're getting. In spite of having some of the highest-quality infrastructure (fast cables, etc...) and a population density that makes it cheaper for them to deliver the service (they have lower installation costs than the companies elsewhere do), it's not cheap here! There is one company that provides the connections to all the "competing" companies, so in fact the market is like a cartel. Consumers get gouged somewhat, and the companies laugh all the way to the bank.

While I do pay for a package and have some decent channel options, I've switched largely to streaming off of Hulu and other online sources, using a proxy server to get around their geographic restrictions. Listen to music most of the time, anyway. I moved recently and got a new contract (at the same time I upgraded my Internet connection speed), so I'm locked in for a while, but I may not renew at all next time around.
