Anyone else had problems with Fedex

d-ray657

Ain't this boogie a mess
I ordered a Pioneer receiver on-line. I asked the seller to send it to my office and limit delivery to normal M-F business hours, with no Saturday delivery. Earlier, Fedex had left a package on my office porch on a Saturday and I was lucky enough to get it because one of my partners went in that day.

This time, Fedex did not deliver it on Saturday, their tracking info said that they had left it on my porch at 9:30 p.m. on Friday. :screwy: Of course, it wasn't there on Monday. When I called to make a claim, they said that it was recorded as a residential delivery with no signature required, which justified leaving a box outside over the weekend in an urban neighborhood. :wtf:The next day after I advised them that the seller had sent me the paperwork that showed it marked as a business delivery, with a specific notation for delivery during business hours, they put me on hold, and miraculously found tracking information that showed that the package was still on the truck. :scratch2:

Any conspiracy theorists out there? I see a racket. Show an unverifiable delivery and keep the goods for resale, until someone can disprove delivery, and then "find" the package. I'll do my shipping with the union guys from UPS. :thmbsp:

D-Ray

ALWAYS ship, specifying "Direct Signature Required." In that way, if nobody home, the unit does not just get dropped and run. It costs just a bit more, but well worth it.

I've had the worst luck with Fed-Ex than any other shipper out there...

FEDEX was my worst experience. I bought a LCD TV online and they said FEDEX wouldn't leave it without my signature. I took a day off and (shurely) FEDEX didn't show up. Next day I'm back from work and BAM! TV box is sitting next to my garage door! And it was just before Christmas (below freezing)! I took it home and didn't turn it on until next day. And when I turned it on lamp just blew. To got an RMA and prepaid FEDEX shipping label. It took FEDEX 2 days to pick it up (they promised to be there on Monday and showed up only on Wednesday).
I never use FEDEX since then.

I've used Fedex Ground for several years and hundreds of packages and have only had a handful of issues, which certainly is to be expected with the volume I've done. Any damages were paid in full and often quite promptly.

FWIW, a lot of it boils down to your driver. If he's an idiot, you're screwed. All my drivers over the years have been good, but once they did send out some newly promoted manager full of Korporate Kool Aid to see me and he was a total loser.

I had a unit was damaged in shipping, it was insured for the purchase amount of $300.

FedEx told me it wasn't worth that and would only pay $120... :nono: :thumbsdn:

Did you supply them with comp closed auctions to prove your point? They busted a Heil tweeter in one of the AMT monitors I shipped a guy and repaid me over $300 (half the auction and shipping) without flinching after I supplied them with closed auction values for the part alone.

Yup, had all the paperwork from the auction and everything... they claimed that it all was a "stated" value.

They also lost the unit, but that's a whole new can of worms...

I got online with a tracking number from a recent ebay buy and specifically stated for them to drop off at my front door (no signature required). And they did exactly that.
When I went back in after it was dropped off, it stated "Per customer's request, left package at front door".

I have had both positive and negative experiences with UPS, USPS, FedEX and DHL. I receive more than I ship, and I think it's all just luck...bad or good.

Suggest you search for other Fedex discussions on AK. Experience varies (mine has been pretty good), and I have to think some of that is operation of the local offices and whether your driver is a Fedex employee or a "contractor." In light of all that, YMMV^2 !

I wonder if many of the issues are related to one's local shipping centers?

The local UPS, I used to deliver to them while working through college- boy they were like simians with the packages.

And UPS items arrive damaged on my door more than any of the other shippers combined and multiplied by at least 2.

FedEx, DHL and the post office are down about 2 each, with mashed deliveries, but UPS for me has resulted 15-20 or more damaged or lost packages.

My thoughts are it's related to which distribution center they travel through.

On the other hand, FedEx not honoring claims at the full value, or UPS denying many claims outright, well that's a corporate issue for sure, and shameful.

last christmas,i got my low-use, excellent condition PIONEER CLD-3030 laserdisc player off ebay from a very nice gentleman in san diego for only $40.00 including the remote, manual and 5 discs. he sent it FED-EX.it came rapidly, i tried it out and the front panel/door would not open and the display simply blinked the CD/CDV/LD indicators endlessly. i popped the top, and found that the obligitory throwing around in shipment had caused the laser assembly to pop off the guide arm that travels vertically along the brass guide rail. the seller is very sympethetic, willing to refund me and then go after FED-EX, but i manage to snap the assembly back on that guide rail and work it through it's travel a few circuits to realign it, and it suddenly resets itself, and it's been a champ since!! this whole affair was scary, but at least it turned out good in the end!:music:

Fedex?

Smash 'em, concoct paperwork and stonewalling when the chips are down. I dumped all their custom-printed stationery last year and still get calls why I don't want to do business with them.

Fedex Home Delivery (Residential) is different from Fedex Ground. I have found Fedex Home Delivery to be a pain in the ass. They deliver Tuesday-Saturday and if you need to pick up the package, the local office closes at 4PM. On top of that its more expensive for the shipper. By default I make sure all my packages go Fedex Ground (select non-residential) -- I find that you get a more professional delivery service that way.

In my experience, I have shipped hundreds of packages with Fedex Ground and not one problem with delivery or damage.

dew.

I've had only a couple problems with Fedex. UPS easily 4 times the amount of problems. USPS don't even get me started. I get shipments weekly, for years. Mainly for PC repair.

I have never had FedEx damage anything, coming or going. I have had UPS destroy many items. FedEx is my shipper of choice, however, I still pack as though the unit will be launched from my house to the destination, like an artillary shell.

Enjoy,
Rich P

I feel your pain but I've actually had decent luck with FedEx. More so than "Brown".

However my last delivery made me a little uneasy. I live on the third floor of an apartment building and always try to save a few steps for courier's so when he rang I just buzzed him in and was in the hallway on the 2nd tier to meet him. I gave him a greeting and he handed over the package no questions asked. I signed his little "tricorder" but then as he was walking away as an after thought he asked me if I was xxxx xxxxxxx. "Yep, that's me".

Of course all of this could have been verified after my sig but still...he really didn't know who he gave the package up to.

I know delivery people are busy as hell but doe's a "Delivery Signature Required" really mean anything? My 2cents.........R1:music::yes:
