Anyone here use a Keurig coffee maker?

I don't use any device that doesn't allow me to use my own home-roasted and freshly ground coffee.

Starbucks would never darken my doorstep. Badly roasted beans from highly uncertain sources. Made that much worse by being roasted and ground a year or so ago and pre-packaged in those little doodads.

Again, you can absolutely use your own coffee in a Keurig. There is a metal filter cartridge for using your own coffee. This is what I do. Much better taste, no plastic waste. Very easy, one cup at a time coffee from freshly ground beans.

The Keurig is wonderful, if you use it right! It's the k-cups themselves that are not great. Those are for emergency use only, for me. Otherwise we have great coffee from a local fair trade roaster I use.

I agree....use mine all the time.....

We got one about a month ago and use our own coffee with a filter adapter
instead of the plastic cups. I was skeptical at first since the wife bought it
but the ole Black and Decker 12 cup hit the loading dock at the local thrift
store before the week was up.

They don't have to. There are three coffee shops on every block in the larger cities. These people have gone coffee mad since becoming the largest coffee growing nation. Oddly, where most coffee growing nations keep the worst at home for the locals and export the best, in VN it's exactly the opposite.

Hmm! I always suspected that cheap coffee was mostly Vietnamese floor sweepings, and now you've confirmed it. :D

Have one...have done all the above. I like the dark roasts and when I'm grinding my own, I like Dunn Bros. expresso a lot! Just can't get it locally. Newmans Best extra bold is to my liking as well. As far as the Keurig...glad I got it. It's nice to have a fresh cup ready as soon as my toast pops up in the morning. :)
Hibuck...

It can't do any method of brewing that I can't duplicate with my Rancilio Silvia, so I doubt I'll ever be buying one. Besides, Silvia's temperature control has been modded with a PID controller, so the brewing temp is always within one degree of where I've set it. Complete repeatability.

Most of the American 'canned' coffee producers use mostly VN coffee now, because it's cheaper than anyone else's. Sometimes the beans have to be steamed after roasting to get the burnt tennis shoe reek out of them.

Almost no other nation imports VN coffee in any sizable amount. Only Americans would drink that drek.

That said, I had a few excellent cups in both Sai Gon and Ha Noi. Didn't get up into the highlands where it's all grown on land that the minority hill tribes were driven off of (primarily the ones that sided with the big pink invaders against their own people.)

Drek? Yiddish for ****? You think we drink ****? You're so refined I'm surprised you condescend to talk with the folks here who drink Maxwell House and don't make a big deal of the precise temperature of it.

I've had a rather hard-nosed stance against the Keurig devices as I see them to be wasteful: each cup brewed produces more plastic waste (the K-cup) than many full pots of regular coffee.

Purchased my Keurig in December, occasionally use the disposable K-Cups but generally use fresh ground coffee and the re-usable K-cup. Love it.

Hey spaceman my last posts are stemming from post #45 earlier.
I feel the same as Mr. Brennan but he is ever so slightly more blunt.

Except most coffee snobs I know (insufferable or otherwise) won't touch Starbucks with a ten-foot pole. :D

Yessir, I'm aware that your Mickey is in fact the "virtual" model, which is what makes this whole conversation worthwhile. It's much more difficult to grasp the nuances thereof, and thus appreciate fully, as compared to the "other" models. :D I'd love to find that tee-shirt in my size, and wear it into a couple dozen (at least) local establishments. :D ;)
