Anyone here using the Jelco 370H tonearm?

Jelco instruction manual says the minimal headshell + cartridge weight to balance the arm is 17 grams. The Grado cartridge weighs only 5.5 grams. Jelco headshell is 9.2 grams. That's 14.7 grams total, still not enough weight. So, added the Soundsmith screws to get over 17 grams. Sounds really good! Technically that amount of arm mass wouldn't be correct, but the Grado handles the mass beautifully! Sounds better now than when it was mounted on the SME 3009 Improved arm.

I've been running a Grado Prestige Blue3 (5.5g) using an ADC LMG-1 headshell (5.6g) and it seems to work fine. From the above thread the consensus seems to be that the 370H armtube by itself is about 12g, so 5.5 + 5.6 + 12 + 1 for leads and mounting screws = 23.2g. To get a VTF of 1.5 the counter-weight is pretty much halfway along the stub. I know weight doesn't translate directly to effective mass, but with some damping added, sounds great to me.

Grado cartridges seem to break the compliance arm rules. I haven't used the dampen feature yet, I will in the near future. My counterweight is right in the middle of the arm stub, so it's perfect. Tracking my Grado Gold3 at 1.7 grams with just .5 gram antiskating, sounds the best to me.

This doesn't look right. Does your cueing look like this? The cylinder goes under the arm base and the shaft pokes through a small hole.

Your cueing is damaged! There's suppose to be a arm platform (pad) attached to that cylinder sticking up. I'll take a photo of mine to show you.

Here's my Jelco cueing bar that's underneath the arm. Yours has broken off. You can see it's attached to the screw, that's attached to the cylinder.

I'm seriously tempted to try one of the Grado woody's. I had a TOTL Grado way back when I first got my Linn LP12, thing hummed so bad. Great sounding cartridge but it was due to the Grado not being shielded. Put a Benz Glider on, all was nice after that.

The new Grado "3" series has a bit of shielding inside. My Thorens TD-160, the Grado hums but you can only hear that in quiet passages. Most of the time I don't notice any hum. You should get the new Grado Opus3. I would have bought one but it wouldn't fit inside my SME 3009 headshell, so I bought the Gold3. The Opus3 woody is a bargain!

I know this post got side tracked but can you describe how the Opus 3 woody sound that makes it such a bargain? is the sound closer to the more expensive Grado cartridges?

How long did it take for your Easy VTA to come in once it was ordered. I ordered mine last week and was shipped out this past Monday.
