Thanks. Pretty crude looking for sure.
But listen to them before tossing them - there is a great deal to be said for avoiding the standard rectangular box, which, amazingly, sounds boxy. Pretty much no matter what you do.
I note that the (what looks like) low excursion woofer seems to be very heavily damped internally, but with lots of vent - curious how it sounds.

I don't believe they began life as DIY, rather some DIY has hacked them up. Far too complicated a build for DIYers. That said, Klipsch has sold literally thousands of raw plywood edges.
The ports have been added, recently.
The drivers are flush mounted, DIYers don't do that. Additionally, the rebates for the drivers have been painted.

I'm inclined to agree with bowtie's analysis. But that doesn't shed any light on who originally made them, alas.
I'd add that the holes appear to show different colored layers, which means plywood, which in turn, suggests an early date. I don't know exactly when particle board became the standard enclosure material - I assume mid 60s - and I know that many DIYers and high end makers favor plywood for better acoustical properties, but the drivers in these, and the plywood suggest a 50s date to me.
