Large bookshelf or not-so-big floor standing.

They aren't very common, but I just found some MB Quart Domain 40's that are super-impressive for being bookshelf speakers. They actually push the limit of being called bookshelf, though... pretty fat/deep cabs.

personally before speakers I would look for a better power source. a bottom end reciever is a bottom end receiver. you have a fairly large room and a 20-30 watt reciever that begins to distort whatever speaker you're driving at volume should be a concern

Thanks. Guess I'm looking for speakers that don't need a lot of power since the 535 in only 22 wpc.

A very efficient speaker will go a long way on that modest power. It's not like he's looking at something real power-hungry like a pair of AR's or EPI's...

Plus the more people that pay a little might help eliminate that awful feeling when you get that message "Server is busy try back later"!

There is a pair of DCM TF-600's for sale in BarterTown right now.

I own a pair of ADS L570/2 and TF-600's and in a larger room there is no comparison. The ADS's sound like speakers in a room, the TF-600's just disappear in the sound. Bass is much better and staging/imaging is amazing.

Don't get me wrong, I love my 570's and in a smaller space they would be my choice but in a room that size the TF-600 is tough to beat for the price.

I have TF-600s and ADS L-520s and agree 100%. I ended up moving the ADSes to my office system where they sound terrific, but they couldn't compete with the TimeFrames in my main listening space (granted it's not a fair comparison to begin with). Since the OP's space is quite large and the Pioneer doesn't have a ton of power, TF-600s would be a reasonable choice for room-filling sound at moderate listening levels (especially if paired with a powered subwoofer to take some load off the SX-535). Personally, I would look for an amp/receiver with a bit more power or more efficient speakers. Of the speakers I own, I would actually choose JBL L-36s for the situation at hand.

Just picked up a pair of DCM CX-17's - and am considering a pair of CX-27's - just not sure of whether the CX-27 will be that much better than the 17's for my sx-535. I know the bass will be better but I've heard great things about the 17's from AudioKarma folks. So I bought a pair off a fellow in the next town (had 'em on Craigs) and then had to travel over this week for Thanksgiving with out-of-state relatives. I hope they sound as good as Ak'ers say. Also have a Marantz 2226B coming next week so possibly the cx-27's may be a good fit there. All have sensitivity (92+).

Thanks for the feedback and recommendations - I'm still looking. I do have my sights on Klipsch Reference RB 61 II's - heard they're spectacular and I can get a new pair for around $350. If anyone has feedback on these, 51 II's or plain old 51's or 61's -

CX-17s are a terrific choice and among the most surprising speakers I have run across. Despite being lightweight and rather cheap in appearance, they compare quite favorably to my JBL L20T3s in small room/nearfield use. Their bass is particularly strong for such a small speaker. I think you'll love them in your system.

There's no doubt that the CX-27s offer even stronger bass performance and can fill a bigger space, but I'm not sure they are "much better" than the 17s. I find the 27s to be prone to boominess even when on stands, and I don't think they image quite as well as the 17s. Based on owning all of the following, I'd take a pair of TF-600s or CX-17s with a sub over the CX-27s for music listening. I ended up using CX-27s as the front channels in an all-DCM 5.1 system and think they work great for that. Hard to go wrong with any vintage DCMs, though. Enjoy your new speakers!
