Anyone sell their CD player and CDs???

Can you imagine, how much space 1.600 cd' s need!?

Roughly 0.65*0.6*1600 GB, at most, stored as FLAC. Allowing for CDs leas than full, and for 78 minute compilations, roughly 500GB.

Oh, you meant physical space... Yes; a bit less than half the space my CD collection takes...

As apartments in Berlin/ Germany are expensive and therefore space is expensive, I decided to copy my cd collection ( around 1.600 cd' s) via bluesound vault 2 on a hard disk.
Can you imagine, how much space 1.600 cd' s need!?
I noticed as additional benefit also, that I listen now to cd's which I bought but never listen to or years ago.
Thanks to bluos and a NAD M10V2 it is now far easier to decide and listen to my collected music.
The cd' s will be sold soon to a local dealer here in Berli n.
Welcome to AK!

I understand the space issue with the CDs. They would still be very difficult to give up, which is why I still own virtually all of mine.
I'm still buying cds for a dollar each at yard sales/thrifts.

Many of them are in like new condition, as if they were played once and put away.
Yes, same situation here. I find quite a few folks begging me to take their collections at garage/estate sales. One time I purchased a huge collection of over 600 CDs. It was someone's jazz collection with many rare out-of-print CDs included. I paid $80 for the entire collection.

I have not had a CD player in my system in over 12 years. All the CDs after being ripped to a hard drive are in several boxes in a closet. Doubt I will ever play them again.

I recently got back into actually having a stereo and dug my old cd's out of storage. I thought about serious streaming, but Just can't find a reason to pay for the extra when I know they don't have what I'm looking for, the Pandora $5 a month is plenty for my casual streaming, YT has the best selection for my wants.
My CD collection is growing. I like searching the cheap used discs on amazon from random goodwill shops. And the Japanese rarity discs. For whatever reason it seams a lot of stuff I want is not on the streaming services.

I enjoy playing CD's 1 at a time in its entirety.

I'm streaming quite a bit and actively selling my LP and CD collections as there are hundreds of recording there I haven't literally played in years, if not decades and some never. As a corollary, I am buying far fewer media, usually items I can resell, as their has been little I've heard streaming lately that has moved me enough to want a hard copy.

I gave away two CDPs circa 2014. Most of my compact discs I kept, but are in storage in the States. The collection, N of around 1,000 is not too large so easy to store, as opposed to the 6-7,000 LPs (and 78s) I've also stored away back in the States. When I moved to France I brought no CDs and only ~ 500 LPs.

PS: My CDPs, both Rega models, went to my sons, one CDP per kid.

There seems to be a whole bunch of experts voicing their opinion here. To each their own. In my opinion if one spends a considerable amount of time and effort (never mind the $$$$)
to put together a unique collection (which is also a considerable chunk of your live) why on earth wouldn't you keep it??:dunno:
To me it's about sitting down with your friends (and a good sipping beverage of your choice) to rummage through a wall of DC's and records to find the track you haven't heard in a while but thoroughly
enjoy:beerchug::music:
I still have not had the definitive answer that the average streaming sound quality is better than CD??
Happy listening
Chris

Thank you. That's what I thought. I will add a DAC and streaming service without breaking the bank in that case.
Love my CD's

also my conclusion, I decided for streaming I need nothing more than Bluetooth for the ultimate in versatility and ease of use. And just incorporated a small bt receiver into my system of separates. now aptxhd is nearly cd quality. Everything can be upgraded individually relying on their own dacs.

It all came down to dealing with the Mrs. I'd already ripped all my cd's
and was down to just storing them in boxes in a spare closet. She
wanted to know why? So I got rid of them. Time for someone else to
enjoy them.

I'm with you except I don't pay for streaming services. I just recently bit the bullet to go Youtube Premium though, and it is VERY well worth it. I use it for so many things and the extra features acquired via premium, as well as no ads, is a game changer for me. I now use it constantly in my home as well as my rehearsal/practice/listening room.

And yeah, youtube showed me how to replace the AC pulley on one of my cars. Saved me a TON of money. Being retired, that matters.

FWIW, I just started acquiring CD's again, just as I did with vinyl about 15 years ago. It's just too cheap. I can cherry pick at goodwill and the local Peddler's Mall for anywhere from $.25 to $.50 per disk. At that price I could never listen to them and throw them away and I'd be out very little. But I think that, unlike cassettes, they will be the next "big" thing to follow vinyl. However, the community will learn what titles to avoid (via bad CD masters and the loudness wars).

My biggest regret regarding CD's, DVD's and BlueRays is throwing away the cases and storing them all in little suitcases to save space. It makes them pretty much impossible to re-sell.
