Anyone start a project and never finish it?

I seem to have a problem. I like to start projects but seem to rarely fnish them. Of course, that was before I got into speakers. It was a hobby that seemed really interesting. The ability to take a $5 pair of junk speakers no one wanted and repairing them for little cost. Of course the new wife is not too fond of the hobby but we have come to an agreement. I sell a couple before I buy anymore. So, here's my problem. I seem to get to a roadblock and then go to the next project.

I have a pair of EPI 100's that I got home to find a ratshack woofer in one of them. So that was the end of the that project as I found a pair of Nova 5's and wanted to try my luck at refoaming with them before I bought a woofer for the EPI. So Nova-5's - completed - turned out great but then again I got distracted with a pair of JBL LX-44's I got for about $15. They needed to be refoamed and they were a different type of woofer with the surround that adheres to the back. So JBL-LX44 - completed.

So I get a pair of Optimus 2's for free. They had been sitting outside under a patio for some time. Turned out they sound great but needed a new wood veneer. But before I had some money to get that done I spy a pair of Bose 301's for $5 that the neighbor had. Picked those up - these needed some more work but turned out great.

So I get distracted again with a pair of DCM Timebasses. I thought they would be great to pair with the 301's but I have a way's to go.........

So....sorry to ramble but does anyone have similar problems? I have 3 uncompleted projects and I still look for more. So sad.

I was hoping you were asking because you wanted to find a project you could finsh for one of us... I've got a bunch you can take your pick from..

heheh.. 3... that's the count I've got in just the last week..

Lol. Ya, I may have one or two of those lying around. When you are done with simi's projects, shoot me a note and you can get started on mine! :D

I have loads of half done projects... no speakers but I have 2 vintage receivers to recap, two tape decks to bring into service, an RCM to build, 2 malfunctioning oscilloscopes to fix, the Sony prologic receiver to fix, and that's just audio. I also have dozens of Jeep projects: AC, hydroboost brakes, interior wiring, sound deadning, etc. I've got plans to revise my firefighting autonomous robot, rebuild my first robot, maybe build another one or two, work on a simple interface circuit for a speech chip, etc., etc. Then there's stuff around the house: backyard weeds, landscaping, two door installations, finishing details in my office, and also finishing details in the bathroom (4 years late) and kitchen.

EDIT: forgot about the function generators I want to reverse engineer so I can figure out what power supply to use on them... and my thoughts about building a CNC mill some day, and, and... I guess these aren't all half started, many are not started at all, others are ideas/plans/dreams. Wished I had more gumption and was able to live on less sleep so I could get more done...

Sometimes it is a problem with trying to stay focused on a few projects at once and not being distracted by the rush of "hey I can do that..." or "hey that would be cool to try..." leading me to add to the project pile, something I do often. Sometimes it is learning to let go of things or giving up, realizing I'm never going to finish, admitting I don't want to finish, and believing that is really ok to do both as well as to send the item to the home of someone who can give it a whirl.

For example one of the o-scopes I fried myself while trying to fix. It is a nightmare trying to figure out what all is wrong with it now. I've been working on it and thinking about it on and off for about 4 months now. I should just give up and turn it into a parts rig since I have an identical scope that is in better shape than the first. But I can't seem to let it go. Argh.

It's no wonder I can't seem to ever get anything accomplished. Too many irons in the fire and too scatterbrained about how I approach all these projects.

Me, and everybody else reading this, well, we ALWAYS finish what we start. You guys are apparently the only ones who don't.

Sorry to have to break the news.;)

My house is full of half-finished audio projects...including the house itself...and the list keeps growing...and now the wife wants to get another puppy! Groan.

Yep, I got a bunch of them, but at least I have a reason:

Let see... what's in the garage (only)

Fix the surfboard... again, damn newbies
2 woodworking projects, sculpture and a platter
Give my Alison 4s to ReEdger
Find one EMIT for the Infinitys
Finish building two custom handguns
Make some shelves in the garage
Clean the garage
Take the piles of funky LPs to GW... again
Take the funky stereo cabinet to GW
Organize my tool boxes
Organize my climbing stuff
Get rid of old ammo
Organize the misc. sports stuff
Organize the camping/hiking stuff
Fix a Yamaha CDP
Hook up a stereo in the garage... again, 1st order of things, then the CDP
Build cabinets for the RS-9s
Do maintenance on the mower

I think I will go fishing this weekend instead.

Oh boy.

*Put birdseye maple front on last bottom drawer of built-in cassette storage unit that was built 5 years ago.
*Refoam various junk and nicer speakers - first, find foam dealer - before that, relocate AK thread I started two weeks ago on foam dealers that search engine no longer finds. (garage piled up w/speakers)
*Recap and crank up Ampex monoblocks, preamp and tuner (bought 5 years ago)
*Build solid oak cabinets for 12" Jensen triax's for Ampex system (bought parts)
*Build big new rack for big system in basement (drawings made, drowning in lumber)
*Recap AR9 crossovers - first order caps - before that make self very small and climb inside to get numbers off caps glued to back wall. (woofer on floor next to pile of screws)
*Make recycled kabuki towers using many salvaged console drivers. (parts here)
* Sparton tabletop AM/FM tuber - why in hell does that thing oscillate? (in parts)
* Zenith tabletop bakelite - silver mica disease treated - why no FM? (in parts)
* Finish friend's Philco 70 console restoration (in parts, chassis restored, cab needs refinish)
*Finish other friend's antique Zenith console, in parts on bench

This would just be the major audio projects that have mostly been started. There are countless others imagined and real.

Finish? Start? What? Where am I? Where's that whatchamacallit? I know I've got one of those around here somewhere...

Yeah, I'm paralyzed by the sheer magnitude of my list. The unfinished side of the basement is like the ADHD Theatre...

No, really I'm gonna finish recapping that technics, right after I refoam the AR's, and fix that damn Sansui. Once I get my workbench clear of all of my..... and finish building that website, and put the Realistic back together, and the lawn, I still have to mow the back yard. Damn, that hallway will get that final coat of paint, just as soon as......

Nope, I have no idea what you all are talking about.
