AR 4x where to begin?

Hi,

I'm brand new to the forum and recently acquired a pair of AR 4x's. The prior owner said that there is an issue with one tweeter. I found that the level controls on the back of both speakers don't move freely, the seem tight and
I hear no change in sound when I turn them.

Can anyone suggest a course of action?

The level controls corrode over time, and that's probably your issue. There's a bunch of threads showing how to pull them apart and clean them. there's also replacements ebay seller vintage-ar sells. They are most likely the reason no sound is coming from the tweeter. Try rotating them back & forth a bunch of times, you may find a spot where the tweeter comes back to life.

These are great speakers.

Did you try spraying contact cleaner in the little openings of the pots (or toggle switches), accessible once you remove the woofer. Go to Guitar Center and buy Deoxit D5 contact cleaner spray. It usually solves all problems with corrosion. It is a cheap fix if that is the problem.

If spraying cleaner doesn't solve the problem here are replacement tweeters.

DeOxit cleaned my level controls (pots) without even having to take them apart.

Where to begin?: Use the AK search function for "AR4X" or "AR-4X" and you will find a ton of info on restoring these.
