AR Turntable - $20

I want to kick myself for selling my beautiful AR-XB every time I see one. I had a beauty right out of the box with the dust cover and everything and I let it slip away a few years ago. Now I have a perfect place and a need for it but it's long gone. If I ever run across a deal like this over here on our craigslist you can bet I'm going to snap it up and keep it this time!

Don't need yet another turntable. ;)

Nor do I, but If I was anywhere near there I'd grab it - the tone arm gave me what the proverbial Bishop got in the presence of the proverbial actress! :D

Edited to add: Hey, lately I seem to be keeping on telling you to buy stuff - sorry about that.

For $20, you need an XB that clean. The headshell is worth 50 bucks. I don't need one either, but for that price I'd be all over it. Probably would keep it, and sell my XA.

Yep, you should buy it. The guy obviously knows how to take care of it; check out the twist tie on the tonearm.

I just heard from the guy.

He now wants $75.

Can you go get it and ship it to me?

I don't trust him to ship it.

Eric

Yeah, I just got the same email. Unfortunately, I'm travelling, so am 1,000 miles away for the next week. Sorry. IIRC, there's a member who owns several acres near Modesto, can't recall the name...

Delivered to me by the original CL seller last night.

We agreed on a price and he held it and brought it to me while on a trip down to SoCal.

Very nice guy. I wish all CL sellers were as cool.

The only issue is the Shure 97me cart is hot glued into the head shell.

Aahh, the old "nut pulled out of the AR headshell" curse. At least hot glue is probably not that hard to remove. Good for you to get it though.

I was going to try to epoxy nuts back into the shell on a table I fixed for a friend, but ended up drilling through the shell instead. The headshell was glued to the tonearm on this one already so it was no big loss. I used nylon screws pointing down and it did not end looking that bad.

So am I correct in my understanding that there is no means for cart adjustment in the AR headshell?

I would assume then that some carts would be way out of alignment when installed in this head shell. No?

Eric

On my XA there is a very small set screw at the base of the tonearm tube (pivot end) that will allow a few mm in or out that comes in handy for over hang adjustment. I'm not sure about the XB but I'd bet it's the same.
There is a lot of "hidden" engineering in these great AR tables.
