AR XA skipping at start of records after new cartridge

Stanley 7520, The picture of the wire is a little confusing because of the angle of view. I believe that this link will give you a better view, https://www.audiocircle.com/image.php?id=133284 Instead of forming a loop and twisting it like your photo shows that you did, I'm sure that Marc meant for you to give the wire loom a little more or a little less spiral in its length.

This might still be useful info:
What you have is an ADC Q402, which is/was likely a derivative of an early-'70s model, the Q40, which slotted in just below the original VLM. With some luck, you might still be able to get some good styli for this cartridge, but getting a good match depends on whether you can get an ohmmeter reading off the terminals.
If that's not possible, a safe bet would be the $10 (shipped) ADC K8 stylus, which tracks well at 2g.

sounds to me as if the azimuth might be wrong. if you have a small bubble level, designed for this, you can put it on the headshell, put the stylus on the lp and check for level. if it's not level, often you can gently try to twist the headshell, while it's in the bayonet mount, that it can be made level. Generally, this works because you don't usually have to move it very far. why didn't it affect the other one you ask, because 1, you changed something in the alignment somehow, 2, the stylus in the other cart was less susceptible to be affected by this azimuth out of balance for whatever the reason, or both or some other reason I haven't considered. Give it a go.



didn't realize you had a proprietary AR until I looked at the pic. sorry. mine is more of an "S" tonearm, bayonet headshell generalization. Have no experience how relevant it is to the AR setup
