AR XA Tonearm repair

Got the arm back from Marc, (a while ago, actually) plinth has been powdercoated, RCA and AC jacks installed, motor mounted. It's shaping up! I put some rubber "washers" around the screws, took a picture, realized that I wanted the washers to go between the motor and plinth, took them off, repositioned them, installed the motor, and am now wondering if they are going to do more harm than good... at least the picture was really neat.

My hunch would be that isolating the motor from the top plate wouldn't do much useful, since (theoretically) the suspension filters out motor vibration, and what the washers might do is add another compliance to affect speed stability. Probably neither effect would be that noticeable.

Agreeing with Nat, that allowing the motor more room to vibrate will add to the top plate/ motor noise (vibration) problem. You're better served by mounting the motor as solid to the top plate as possible. Then controlling the soundboard affect of the top plate by rigid bracing of the plate to the plinth in the areas of the top plate that doesn't interfer with subchassis movement.
 
Thanks fellas, your explanations make sense. I will try it in its current configuration and then take them off, and listen for any difference in motor noise. I sure felt like MacGyver punching them out of that rubber band, though! Maybe once I take them off, I will combine them with a peanut shell and paper clip and use them to jump start a car or break out of captivity, should either need arise.
