Acoustic Research AR1's, looks like a pair in extremely nice condition. $1K. Not my cup of tea, but maybe someone else has had their heart set on a pair.

Nice to see a pair that hasn't hasn't been gutted for their 755A.

Like the rhinoceros, I'd call the AR-1 endangered because of the high value of its parts in Asia.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I sold a single Altec 755a on the 'Bay right before the economic meltdown and got about what this guy is asking for the AR-1s. That said, I don't think I'd be so lucky now. These ones are really far too nice to hack up also - I'm with winters860 on that one.

I would love to have them, I found one and it sounded excellent. I had no use for one so I sold it, I made 1500$ on it. That was like 6 months ago. I would love to have these mighty fine speakers

They were up before in August for $500.

I had emailed him and wanted to see them, but they were up north and he wasn't bringing them down until early September, so we put if off, and then let it go.

Certainly a nice score for someone, but my penny jar isn't quite that full...

I think they really didn't nail it until the AR3 (The Smithsonian elected to esconce the AR3's), though from a collector's standpoint they're very interesting, and if all original, working, and pristine probably are in the ballpark.
