Bi-amp
I guess that there are a few definitions of bi-amp. A pure bi-amp capable speaker to me, is one that allows for a complete bypass of the passive crossover. In the case of many 3,4, and 5 way systems, that is just not feasible to do, so a compromise is made, and usually, a provision (a mechanical switch) is inserted in the input path to allow for a complete bypass of the LF/woofer section only, and an outboard electronic crossover is used to handle the line level filtering between the two amps . It is possible to use two seperate amplifiers to power the LF/woofer section and the upper midbass/midrange/HF of the AR-9 independently, it is, however, not necessary to have an electronic crossover to filter and divide the input signals between the two seperate amps, as the internal passive will do that, albeit, very ineffeciently due to full range signal being amplified by the amps, plus the power robbing inductor/coil/choke in the LF circuit. That to me, is a bi-wireable speaker, and not a true bi-ampable speaker. Attached are pictures of the AR-9's internal crossover. Upon close study of them, I assume that those wires going from the crossover boards out to the woofers means that the input signal does indeed filter through them ( and the admitted absence of any "switch"). I had some horrible flame wars on other sites that I truly never intended, I do not want that here, nor do I mean any insult or harm. I learn something new almost every day and enjoy that. I could be mistaken about the AR-9, and will, with a smile, accept the correction if it proves that I am indeed mistaken. It's great to share and learn too, thank you for your opinion, I value it.
