AR9's in KC

Sent a request for pics. I am in no shape to buy any speakers, but you gotta strike while the iron is hot...:scratch2:

I emailed the guy, he seems legit, says he has no pics but they are in pretty good shape. Not mint, one veneer chip on one of them, a couple water rings on top. Need refoamed. Seems like a good deal. Olathe KS.

My wife just said "Maybe you need a hobby where you don't have to buy so much stuff. Like exercising." I'm thinking, yeah, I could use some exercise, but you just bought that ab machine.... :tears:

Get an old-fashioned Nordic Track Pro ski machine - the ones with an iron frame and solid oak boards. I've been using mine just less than two weeks, and not only can I REALLY FEEL the difference, TWO people have already commented that I look thinner ... and one said I looked taller! I actually think the "taller" bit is accurate, too, as it is helping my posture. There is absolutely no question that it is flattening out and firming up my abdomen from the inside out, much like Pilates would but a whole lot more easily. It is, by far, the best general exercise machine I've ever tried. Not that hard to use, but very effective, because of the way it works the large muscle groups AND the core stabilizers.... and it makes you breathe and sweat, too! I can't say enough good stuff about this simple, old machine. This thing and some basic weights for lifting are all the exercise you'll ever need.

Yep, problem is, you have to actually get on the thing. I have never seen them work just sitting there in the corner.

Seller emailed back that I was wrong, the AR9 does not have a rear facing woofer, it has TWO side firing 12" woofers. Holy crapoli. It's killing me. Save me from myself. I've got 3 sets of speakers in the basement, NONE of which are mine, all taken in to fix for family and friends. What was I thinking. I gotta get these outta here!

The AR 9 is a heavy load, at 4 ohms, and each one's the size of Napoleon's coffin.

Thesw are true full-rangers. Go low as many subwoofers.

However, they are considered one of the nicer vintage speakers out there.

Worth a look. You'd be a member of a very small group of what many consider to be the king of the AR line.

You'll get your workout by lifting and moving these 120lb (each) beasts.

And when the wife chases you down the street with the frying pan or rolling pin, you also get your cardio.

Yea that wife and frying pan is what keeps me from buying these. I saw them come up around 6:30 monday and it has been killing me not to go get them.

Hmmmm....

Death-

Slow agonizing death by internal turmoil for not grabbing life by the reigns and going after one of the nicest speakers AR offered, and regretting it through all the layers of hell later, or...

Quick, instantaneous death by large cast iron skillet cleaving your cranium my an angered she-monster...

Either way you lose, but even in death, if you have the speakers, you can listen to good tunes... and maybe even tune out all that yelling and scorn...:scratch2:

screw that mave...

put on some body armor, a helmet, grab your Remington. Defend your right to the love of a hobby. If she can have the clothes, 50 million shoes and all of that BS, you can get some really good sounding speakers. Hell, you may just get rid of everything else you have after hearing the 9s.

Next time your wife drags something home you hate, run to the kitchen....

Hey, worst-case scenario, you can always hollow out one of the AR9s and get buried in it.

The suckers are big!

The biggest problem is I recently bought 3 pair of speakers including pioneer cs-99a, cs-63dx and dcm timewindow 1a's. Also a pioneer sx-828 and sx-650 receivers and a pioneer pl-117d and sony ps-x50 turntables and a few hundred record. This doesn't include anothe 10+ pair including a pair of ESS AMT 1a's so I have plenty of good sounding speakers. If I bought these ar9's I thought I would run them on my main theater system which has a pioneer elite vsx-74txvi running through klipsch klf-20's and a klipsch sw-15 sub. I'm just not sure if the sound of the ar9's would be cost worthy enough after I have to get all the woofers fixed. Then I have to consider christmas is just around the corner and I have a 7 and 4 year old still to buy presents for and I'm the only one working on a printers salary. So its not just the wife but she is a factor I have to try to keep some peace with her.

I could always sell the Klipsch kg 4.2's, bought new in 91. They are on blocks anyhow, so the ARs wouldn't look all that huge in place of them...surely the ARs outdo the Klipsches, which have that Tractrix horn and a 10" woofer/10" PR. I could probably get 150-250 for them and pay for most of the AR9s.

Just how tall are these suckers? 5 ft.? The spec sheet above is too small to read.
