Are Receivers still relevant?

For me, receivers were never something I wanted. If I wanted to listen to FM, I would have a separate tuner to go along with the pre/amp.

But FM sucks around here, so no need for a tuner. If I wanted to listen to music when I am mobile, I always have my smartphone and earbuds.

I was bitten with the Short Wave bug when I was 12 years old. It all seemed utterly amazing to me.

I would go to sleep listening to a station in Hilversum, Netherlands.

I remember the very nice cover of George Harrison’s “My Sweet Lord” by a female singer that they would play.

I'd listen to WWV for hours on my Heathkit GR-81 SWR I built in 4th grade. I loved picking up Hawaii's WWVH, seconds before Fort Collins.

Remember when it was called "Greenwich Mean Time" instead of "Coordinated Universal Time."

Little things thrilled me in those years (pre-girlfriends).

Love it.

My wife's number is the same, but different area code as "The Loan Depot".

Her voicemail actually says "this is NOT the loan depot", but people still leave messages begging for more time to make their payments.

I like to tell her, when she answers one of them- "just tell them they have all the time they need and not to bother calling again".
