Are stands necessary in this case?

My furniture is capable of providing correct distance between speakers, correct distance of the speakers from walls and correct height to my listening position. Is there any other reason I should go for stands except for the visual ones?

As long as the speakers are at the correct height and the recommended distances away from the front & side walls, I'd think that a very sturdy piece of furniture would be fine as a stand.
