Are these Infinity RS-2000 bookies worth $100?

Not worth it in my opinion. They're not bad, but they were close to the bottom of the line at the time. That listing is filled with more than a little hyperbole.

For that price you should be able to find an EMIT-based pair, if you're a little patient.

I had a pair, not one of Infinity's better efforts. IMHO not worth it, $30 to $40 tops. There are a bazillion bookshelf speakers that sound better.

I had a pair of those back in the mid eighties--not bad, but not worth $100, but you also have to figure they have probably $30-40 invested in the re-foam, so that is already done, and they look pretty clean. Maybe make a lower offer?

3 miles down the road--go listen to them and find out what you think they are worth...

I have a pair of Infinity RSe with the EMIT tweets. That's why I was curious. I'm thinking my RSe are only worth about $100 and they have a larger cabinet of flawless oak veneer, not vinyl like these.

My thoughts exactly. Thanks.

The EMIT from the 4000 will bolt right in to these, it's got the same 3 screw arrangement as the Polycell on this one.

I bought a lot of these, and the 1000, for office mates to use along with a small amp as computer speakers. They're a neat little speaker, but $100 is pushing it. I paid $20-$30 for most of them, and another $10 for foams. That said, if they've already been refoamed, and you're not the type to do that kind of job yourself, $100 is probably not a crazy price to pay.

bs

Reguardless of all the talk about these speakers, they were made fir the 3 superstores of the time , Highland, Best buy and curcirt city. The dealers were pissed at curcirt city trying to carry the Kappa line. Cannot blame the high end boutique style stores. Besides , the company was named Harmon international. Infinity was a subsidiary. This are ok for computers or garage, not good enough for a bedroom or den. Brace the hell out if them and fill them with stuffing. They may ve adaquate. But these were made as a money maker for the super stores. These cost less than 50 and sold fir $170.00. i was an audio mgr fir Highland from 90 to closing in 91. What a close time for audio

I just did a full bare metal rebuild of a set of RS 2000’s. Voice coils, spiders, leads, surrounds wire and rebuilt the crossovers including jantzen caps, inductors, gold binding posts and resistors. They sound fantastic - better than many so-called higher end of similar size. I was going to swap out the tweeters for emit Kapps but the didn’t need it. I got mine free in a deal for a set of the RS 5000’s which are also fantastic when rebuilt with quality parts.

I got a pair for free two years ago. Frankly, I found them unlisteneable. The tweeters were painful to me.

I made a quick $50 on them.
