are theses tapes any good?

I have 7 Sony ULH 550 BL tapes just want to know if they are worth keeping or should I get rid of them

These days, any tape is worth keeping.

I am assuming these tapes are Reel to Reel? Sony tapes are known sticky-shed offenders, so be careful. They can shred oxide all over the tape path. The best tapes are Maxell, Quantegy, and all new formulas of tape. I have Maxell's in my collection from the early 80's that are perfect. The worst offenders are Ampex. Not all Ampex but many are not good.

I've got a big pile of Sony PR-150 that seems to have lost it's lubricant and squeals like a pig through the guides and across the heads. It doesn't shed all over the machine, but it's useless other than for spare empty reels.

The reels might be worth salvaging, at the very least.

Well, you can try one and see what it does. And as said above, save the reels if you can. By the way, if it does suck feel free to add it to our list of SSS tapes here. It's a sticky now i believe.
