Are you most times a treble or bass biased listener?

I've got the orig Brit "Quad" system with the 33 pre and the upgraded 405 amp from the 303.

The 33 not only allows me to control the amount of bass and treble on separate channels, but can also "slope" the sound. It the record is severely scratched, or a poor studio effort, the ability to "clean up" the sound is a great option to have at hand.

Not to open yet another "portal", which oft invites heavy side-taking, some tend to prefer the EQ to tailor the end sound results. I notice this is a big deal with some of the upper/newer HP's and Mp3 high/res players which offers various filters for different genres to be played. But, I find it more of a bother to do this constant changing, so pretty much stay with the one limiter that I'm content with.

When I was a kid, several of the appliances I used for listening to music didn't have separate bass and treble controls. Instead, they had a single tone control which I kept turned all the way to the right.

With my first access to separate bass and treble controls, I kept bass flat and treble about halfway between flat and wide open.

As my speakers improved, I moved on to keeping all controls flat.
 
I have been listening to music on small speakers and headphones for quite a while. I always found that I could hear much more bass in the headphones, so I bought a subwoofer to add to the speakers. Night and day! Suddenly the music from the speakers sounds a lot more like the headphones. It's taking me a while to dial in the subwoofer level - on some music it sounds about right and other music it sounds a bit too much. I keep adjusting it up and down.

The addition of the sub really makes you aware of the soundstage , even if it is artificially created in the recording studio. I suspect there's a lot of low frequency info that I'm not normally aware of that defines the "space" of the recording. I would think that sort of thing would be defined by the high frequency content, but my high frequency hearing is not what it used to be.
 
Most times, a certain genre will dictate the tweak of either the bass or the treble. Even some of the bands I listen to get a slight addition of bass or treble.

With head phones for some reason going FLAC, I hardly change the settings, esp when going portable outside.

i tweak the treble just a touch to balance the bias on my speakers typically but when fiddling with eqs just by ear i lean towards the bass end for sure . might be because i'm a Bass player in my spare time or maybe cause i've blown my ears out playing live music in a storage locker/practice space not sure. been 4 years since hear test was all clear maybe time to book another.
 
Probably increased age might foster a hankering towards the tweaking of the bass/treble knobs, trying to deal with the loss of lower or higher frequencies.

Back in the 70's and 80's I leaned more toward the high frequencies because I grew tired of the same old warm and detail suppressed sound from the majority of speakers of that time. It led me to venture into horn loaded speakers that I stayed with until the turn of the century. As my system advanced, I'm now "hornless" and always have tone controls set flat.
 
My main system flat and that sounds good. For my vintage system it depends on the source. Sometimes a little more bass, and sometimes a little more treble.
 
I always listen with the maximum volume to position 3, I keep the tone control at maximum for all frequencies and loudness on. When necessary I drop the bass.

You must be the person who's had every hire car I've ever had in the US before me.

The stereos always sounded absolutely terrible as the bass and treble had been cranked to full and the loudness was on. One I reset them they sound quite decent!

Deci folosesc setările de ton la volum scăzut. Dacă ar fi un volum mare, bineînțeles că aș reduce bass, midrange și treble.
Nu ascult muzică deloc în mașină pentru că sună oribil.



 
Depends on the room and system, but I do like things on the "warmer" side. EQ is my friend and I usually boost the bass a bit.
