This was a really fun project. I got a 3d printer around xmas time and I used it alot for this restoration: New top plate brackets, the RCA inserts, the tonearm rest and even the little collars for the tonearm wire and powercord were printed. I'm going to try printing the hinges for the dustcover as well, we'll see how that goes.
I've done several TT restorations now, mostly Thorens, but this was the first time I've done a full tonearm rewire and polished the main bearing. It's a great deck to learn on because it's such a simple (but elegant) design. I definitely have more confidence now and will apply my learnings on my next projects.
When I fired it up for the first time I had a terrible hum. I couldn't figure out why because I had it all grounded really well. I got out the multimeter and I figured out there was not continuity on the left channel ground. Basically it was between the front and back of the RCA jack (how does that even happen??). I tightened up the RCA terminal by 1/4 turn and that fixed it...go figure...always something!
