Asking for help in modeling a cabinet and port size.

The math doesn’t math to me

I assume the 4.9cm and 5.68cm is the RADIUS of each port end? (~4” diameter)

Area = pi R^2

4.9 cm end is 75.4 cm^2
5.68 cm end is 101.3 cm^2

An 8 cm DIAMETER port (~3”) will give you your ~51.5 cm^2 area
Sorry...the radius would be half what I posted.

Port area is only about half your target then

4.9 cm is 18.8 cm^2
5.68 cm is 25.3 cm^2
No idea how I typed that dimension. The ellipse is 134mm wide and 49mm high. Radius is 67mm and 24.5mm, or 51.57 sq cm???

I must be losing it more than I thought

Ohhhh… lol. Sorry, I missed they were elliptical. Someone else can math that!

Says you’re good though!

When you use round port tubes and inches to finally get the port right, your frequency response will probably match the Wavecor data.

:)

@mboxler would you say that Hornresp was not very accurate at all in simulating the actual results of the Wavecor driver in the Heresy cabinet?

If I understand post 33 correctly, it seems the driver was simulated to be fairly flat to 30Hz. I don't believe the actual results were anywhere near that.

Seems like the Wavecor should not be driven anything above 1K Hz. Doesn't the Heresy woofer to mid cross over somewhere around 800Hz?

Would you say, disregarding the efficiency issue of the Wavecor, the Wavecor performed better than the 3012HO? I realize in your setup, you cannot ignore the efficiency issue. I am driving two Wavecors with a separate sub amp. So, I can compensate.

I still need to build my box and do a listen test. I would be interested in buying your Wavecor if my two sound well. I know consumer shipping prices can often make purchase price plus shipping make the total cost be above the value though.
I'm only listening to music through the woofer, so performance is hard to judge. When I swap the 3012HO back in I'll get a better feel, but then again, the 3012HO extends out flat to 3khz. I'd be happy to send the 4-ohm version to you when I'm done.

OK, sounds good.

Your last REW graph shows about 42Hz tuning. The tuning should be 27Hz for a proper evaluation of the 1.6cu ft enclosure.

I know. Not sure what went wrong.

I wonder if the 3d printed adapter wasn't stiff enough???
