I am curious to know why so many different brands have the same letters for the prefix of the models name?
Y is "X" so popular?
Examples:
Yamaha RX-1130
Sherwood RX-4109
JVC RX-903V
Hallicrafter SX-24
Pioneer SX-737

Rotel RSX-1057
Pioneer VSX-D510

ZZZZZZZZ-I'm tired.

RX could be short for "Receiver" with X replacing everything past the R as is often done. Similarly, SX could be short for "Stereo" with the X replacing...

Like Ped "Xing" or Merry "Xmas" but in reverse.

each had their own little offshoot from one another ..
if it is sa ..stereo amplifier .. the x i believe is receiver .... maybe they should have had sax .. i dunno ...

It's an xellent letter. Perfect for xpressing one's thoughts. Xceedingly, X cannot be crossed. It is Xpensive, but, what an Xperience it is.

What was the question again?

I always considered the X meaning 'cross', 'crossed', 'crossover'
RX and SX were tuner and amplifier crosses.

The X is also used here:
Transformer- TX/former
Crystal- Xtal
X'ing- crossing
X'mas- Christ/Cross mas

X= Extreme, Extra and Experimental

In drag racing of the same time period the top class would be A/FX, Aaltered / Factory Experimental.

Street cars where being badged the same, Cougar XR7, Plymouth GTX.

Ford had a program to build the Experimental cars that some would become the Iconic classics we know today. It was all geared at the baby boomer to relive them of their money as they where getting older and soon to become the biggest sales market.

If you don't think the Japanese, Germans, and Brits didn't see and want a piece of the action in America and what was going to attract the youth, think again. Music, Record Industry, Cars and Stereos boomed, brining with it entire evolution of products that the baby boomers will want to own. We wanted Extra and to Experiment with the Extreme, not what our parents owned, who wanted daddy's Fairlane, when you could have a Fairlane GT, a Impala SS, Pontiac GTO and a Plymouth GTX.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it...

Rx normally indicates medical prescriptions. So, you'd need to be on meds to buy a Pioneer RX receiver. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

One of our cars is an X-Trail (crossover, 4x4 etc).

But I like X for extreme. That makes all those vintage receivers SX-treme and RX-treme.

Rx is however, just what the Doctor ordered...
Yep. Take one type then need ten more different meds to counteract the negative effects of the first one. It's called Polypharmacy. More visits to the doctor. More dependence upon medical intervention. More money spent on failing health. Just what the Doctor ordered..

So, it's Drugs and Sex [and Rock and Roll], then.

Be cautious about RX interactions. Be cautious about SX interactions, too.

Synergy is important. :)

:whip:Ah yes! It all makes cents' now.
It's funny. We all have the same things in common: sex, drugs, and stereos. I like it!

My RX wants some TA. Got to go.......
