It's time to step up. If you've been collecting long enough, I'm sure you have a piece of gear that you love, but are a little bit ashamed to admit to everyone else. I'll go first: My Garrard SL-65 turntable. A lot of folks here look down on stackers & Garrard isn't even considered one of the best brands, but damnit I love mine! I have other nicer TT's (Denon DP-62L & 59L), but more often than not I stack about 3 or 4 records on the Garrard & let it fly (no pun intended). Just something about the Garrard takes me back to my childhood when my family would have record day & everyone got to pick a record & put it on the family record player which just happened to be a SL-65. :thmbsp:

Honorable mention would be a set of original series Bose :sigh: 301's.

So what are your gear guilty pleasures?

Hey, there are a fair share of Technics detractors around but I've got no less than 4 amps/receivers by the company, and the Technics amp is my present everyday go-to guy. It's not that I don't have all kinds of respect for the other big companies, because I do and will likely wind up owning an amp or receiver made by several of them in time. I'm a Technics guy and I have been since I bought my first system.

As if that wasn't deplorable enough of me, I took a chance on the Sanyo receiver in my signature, which I think is a wonderful little unit. A real sleeper of an 85 wpc piece of gear. I think so many people go after the highly desirable and well regarded pieces of audio equipment that there is a tendency to overlook how good some of the other companies built their gear. If a piece of equipment proves itself to my ears, thats all that matters.
 
Well, that would have to be my Dual 1209. I love that thing. Love the looks, love the way it automatically starts playing my records. I could just set the stylus down on the record manually, but I just love watching and hearing that thing work. It also takes me back to easier times in my childhood when Mom would get me a new record and I would play it over and over. I have better tables but that is my favorite :)
 
I think mine would have to be having an entirely digital music collection. I no longer have a CD player or turntable because of space constraints.

Dual 1225 for me. It gets played every night while I fall asleep. :thmbsp:
 
My Technics SL1300 turntable. I have replaced everything in my system since I bought it in 1976 except that turntable. It still does all I ask of it. In fact I am listening to it at this moment

I would consider that piece a prized possession.
 
Cost plays no part into my audio decisions, It's all about the sound for me. That's why I make so many unpopular claims. If something sounds good, I try to report it how I hear it.
 
Mine has to be my Peaveys... I mention them, and people see them, and I get ****.. but after people here everything together, I'm no longer ashamed... Ashamed isn't the right word, but I think ya'll understand..
 
Sony CD Mega-Changer. Every now and then I get lazy and want to listen without flipping LP's or monkeying with CD's. Not the highest fidelity, but one could do alot worse.
 
mines the accurian amp, its grey plastic and has no level indicators on the treble and bass knobs, but it sounds damn good when dialed in, I use it with a realistic tape control center as a source selector and feed it with a luxman t-400 tuner and a JVC tapedeck in my radio rig, sounds great for background music.
 
Cassette tapes. Last week I came across a box of 100 pre-recorded cassettes for $5.00. Couldn't pass that deal up so I had to pipe a cassette player into the mix. I had forgotten that they can actually sound ok.
 
the ultimate audio guilty pleasure - I really like my Bose 301 speakers and plan on getting, but rarely mentioning a pair of Bose 901. They are going to be my little secret
 
AudioSource Amp 7t Class D amp. Has been a great amp to have around, Was my main amp for awhile, And fills in nicely when my main amps were out getting modded. Has never hiccuped once in stereo or bridged to my sub. For under $250, It's been a bargin.
 
Here's another guilty pleasure, although it isn't integrated into my audio system. My son and I share the same computer room; he's gaming away with a decent set of Denon headphones behind me on one PC while I watch a movie on a 32 inch flatscreen Panasonic Tau on my computer desk.

I'm listening to the Tau piped through a pair of Sennheiser TR120 wireless headphones - no, the sound isn't audiophile but its perfectly acceptable for watching movies, sports or what have you. I can get coffee, food, make a run to the bathroom without having to fret over headphone cables. They tend to get hours of use between my son and I each day and I've been using them for years.... a real workhorse! If they were to go belly up I would buy another pair in a heartbeat :yes:
 
My iPod.

A great way to listen to an album when on a long subway ride or sitting in the doctors office.

I find records tend to skip when playing on the subway, and ill patients tend not to like hearing van halen through AR9s right before a colonoscopy....
