Audio guilty pleasures

Every now 'n then the wife and I spin some 45's or 78's on an old Califone record player, long retired from school A/V use. Of course we don't play the "good" vinyl on it -- just some well worn stuff from our youth.
Its big oval tube-powered mono speaker sounds so right with these moldy oldies. At least according to how we remember it. Must be a nostalgia thing. We enjoy it quite a lot.

it would have to be my gott amplifiers.i'm afraid to post anymore pictures of them as it could cause mayhem.

my claim to shame is a LXI micro component stereo from sears fed into a pair of american made JBL bookshelf speakers. i think the components where made by sanyo. its an integrated amp and seperate tuner with analog dial. both can be run off 12vdc. its sounds just spiffy in my workshop.

My guilty pleasure are my pair of JBL L25 Primas. I would post apicture, but it would probably break your monitor screen. These were the mid 70s version of the L26 that had funky foam filled plastic cabinets, and grilles in contrasting colors. Mine are royal blue, with orange grilles. Rare, but heinous looking. I can always get my daughter going by threatening to send the L25s to college with her for her dorm room.

Before and after Science
Design Acoustics Sp-6 bookshelf speakers, Audio Technica house brand, sound surprisingly good to my ears, hooked up to a trashed scratched up HK 330 with burned out bulbs, and a non working fm meter. Offset on that HK 15 mv and 3 mv, with no work whatsoever, 6 bucks, no complaints.

I'm a bass player and take my equipment very seriously, but I am NOT brand conscious. I usually get my money's worth. Well, I run through a Boss Gt6Badigital effects unit, crown Microtek 1200 amp and 2x12 and 1x10 neo cabinets. But for a preamp I use this thing:

My bass rig is full stereo or bridged mono, depending on the Venue. This little Behringer parametric eq has been a workhorse for three years now, even after the case with it and the Crown in it fell off my speaker TWICE during gigs. Both times I just hauled it back up on the speaker and everything worked fine.
I use the shelving feature on the lowest frequency control to create a high pass that lets everything from my low B string through but saves the speakers and amp from all the subharmonic pap.
Paid $50 used on craigslist.
People have commented on my tone - in the good way.:yes:
And people that don't know one brand from another think it looks really cool.

Realistic fan.
For me, it has to be my BSR 3208 changer. It is similar to the Realistic LAB 49. It has an Audio Technica magnetic cartridge. I use it to play my 45 R.P.M. records.

My guilty pleasures are my AKG K1000 headphones .....
The cost of these even on the s/h market is quite something. I probably should be looking to sell these as I need the money with a new baby on the way but I just can't part with them. They sound so good even as standard like mine. I currently run them from a Rotel RB970 but on my Tube Monoblocks they really shine. I've tried to sell them a few times and each time i've either change my mind of i've come up against bums. Luckily for me i've put them in my system permanently now and have dispelled all thoughts of selling. PHEW!!

Might be a bit offbeat, but I vote for mp3 as a format. Sometimes it just works. But never for critical listening of course.
I guess it would have to be my Coustic HEQ-7009 Equalizer. I inherited this piece from my brother-in-law years ago (along with a Pioneer SA-9500 II and TX-9500 II). The only reason I have kept it around is for converting otherwise unavailable selections from cassette to mp3. Since I have been slow to complete that task, it still sits on my desk under my preamp.

My guilty pleasure are a set of Pioneer CS-66( I think S.. but anywho) speakers. They pair up great with my old Pioneer SX-737 Receiver and PL-12D turntable. Has that Japanese sound and gives me anther flavor to break up the critical listening with my Boston A400's (paired with there own amps mind you)

I don't blame you those are sweet cans ... A buddy of mine has an original set of AKG K340's that I'm having no lucky trying to buy them from him ... His are electrostats and they sound freaking incredible .... I have never heard a pair that sound better and neither has he and I guess that's why he won't take $200 for them ....
My guilty pleasure is probably my Realistic STA-78 it's only 22watts but as pretty as a receiver can be and she also sounds great I'll never part with it.

I just bought a "guilty pleasure" a few days ago. It is audio-related, but not exactly hi-fi.
It's called a Tweakalizer, from Behringer, and is described as a "DJ effects processor". It can be used to do that horrid "scratching" stuff that hip-hop DJ types like, but also a variety of effects like flanging, with a lot of control in a pretty easy-to-use interface.
My "guilty pleasure" is to mess around with gear like this (and my Yamaha sequencer and Korg Triton synth, etc..) with a mixer and a laptop to create music and/or sound effects. I'm a halfway decent composer-arranger when I put my mind and ears to creating something that sounds good, but when it comes to electronic creation of music, I'm a bumbling dabbler with a LOT yet to learn!
I look forward to weird experiments like recording various "found sounds" using a biphonic set-up, then editing them into/with music and "processing" some of the sounds, etc.. to create a "walk through my fantasy world", etc...
Mostly just messing around, and I don't do it very often because of time constraints, but it is fun and a good way to relax sometimes. It also helps me sometimes to understand better what I'm hearing in recordings; what the producers were doing when a recording was made. If I learn to use the gear well enough, I might actually record/create and release something, in my eventual retirement.
