I have a buddy thats going to visit family in GB, he was wondering if there are any audiophile stores he could visit while there. Are there any places there you could go and buy vintage Mullard or Brimar tubes?

Thanks!

Where in the UK will your friend be going? Some of the UK members here might have an idea based on that answer.

Sadly there are relatively few hifi stores left in the UK--the internet finished most of them off. Those that remain are either branches of Richer Sounds, a discount chain, or rather high end places with small stocks. Your friend's best bet is to do some internet searches and shortlist possible places. Also pick up a copy of Hi Fi News or Hifi World and check the dealer ads. London is an expensive city and hifi prices there reflect that. Same goes for tubes. The tube sellers have internet stores. :( Mullard and Brimar are available, but expensive. It's worth asking in record shops for local small scale sellers.

Sorry, that's my experience of last looking in London two years ago. From reading his posts, AK member Daunia knows the London scene much better and could have some better advice.

No sure about actual hifi stores-as Dandy says mostly just Richer Sounds or specialist stores bit with narrow ranges and low stock levels. Not much for valve gear.
If interested in getting new Brimar valves, this link may be interesting
