Audio Technica Signet TK7E

I'm working on a recent GW acquisition - a Luxman PD-277. It has an Audio Technica Signet TK7E cart. Anyone know anything about this cartridge? Any good?

I know Merrylander really likes the lesser model the TK5Ea. I have a TK3 that I will be getting a 5 stylus for, eventually. I have to get the cartridge back from a friend.

Looked it up in my 1984 Audio Annual. The TK7E is in the top third of the Signet TK series line of cartridges with another TK7E version and the TK9E and TK10E topping it. My guess is you will be very pleased with it and I doubt you could go wrong with any of the higher end vintage MM cartridges. I have a few nice MC cartridges but end up useing MM, my favorite is the Grace Ruby.

Just about every other maker listed their retail prices for Audio Magazine Annual, NOT Signet.

As I recall, Signet series was their upper tier? Supect you will be pleased?

Signet was AT's upper tier offering. I used a TK7 for many years, but with the LCa stylus instead of the E. As I recall, I actually originally bought a TK5E in the early 80's, but the only difference between the 5 and 7 models was in the stylus. So, when it was time to replace it, I upgraded to the line contact version and thus created a TK7LCa. I think the price would have been about $125-150 for the TK7E with the LcA a little higher.

I don't remember many details about the sound, but I ran the Signet much longer (> 10 years) than any other cartridge I ever owned, so it must have sounded pretty good.
