any audio test software for amps that's easy to use for hobbiest? For making basic measurements, power, freq. resp, bandwidth etc. freedownloads for laptop use or whatever.?

I Use a signal generator, more pure waveforms are generated with it. If you use a real good scope you can see the steps in the sine waves from being digitized.... that come from software generated signals... then decoded with a D/A converter

My .02 (guess I'm just old school)

got all that. just thought something to do analyzing plotting of measurements. Nothing for serious just to play with. Dont need anything.
think Ill just forget it.

I had a similar idea several weeks ago. My H/K 330b has a distorted left channel, and I traced it to the amp, not the pre-amp. So I got the idea to down load a tone generator, and a 'scope program to trace further. Long story short, the 'scope program was a P.I.T.A., and did NOT work well, and the right channel was damaged. I'm gonna look for a real scope now. For just monkeying around, NCH tone generator was ok, but I wouldn't bother with any 'scope downloads for any reason. Just my thoughts.

I saw your original post and was hoping that there would be some good suggestions. In the past, I have manually measured and entered the readings into EXCEL. Later I plot the data and the results look good. It is just that all the measuring and entering the data is not too much fun.

I am no longer in the market for test software. All the hardware I have is sufficient. thanks for the inputs.
