Auto Demagnetizing

How does Auto-Demagnetizing work on cassette decks that have this feature? E.G the AIWA AD-FF8.

Don't know about the AIWA system. My Luxman K-03 has a built-in demag circuit - but there is a switch the user must operate.

Do not know how this feature is incorporated/deployed in cassette decks.

In old CRT based TV's and such, there was a degaussing coil (basically the same goal-remove magnetism from components). Each time you turned on the TV, it would be energized for a couple of seconds. CRT computer monitors had this feature as well, and often their menu included a manual degauss option.

I would speculate that when a deck is turned on, it would initiate this demag (as long as there was no cassette in the well )

I have an AIWA AD-F660 with auto head demagnetizer.
Every time you switch on the deck the circuit is activated, an LED lights up for aprox. 2 sec. and then you are ready.

I've never used a deck with this feature or seen schematics, but I would guess it works in the same way cassette shell demagnetizers like the TDK HD-1 works, i.e. it blasts a quickly fading high frequency signal into the heads mimicking the pulling away of the wand in a handheld demagger.

Thanks for the info, I'd rather use a wand personally, have never had a bad experience with it. :thmbsp:
