B-2X or M-80...help

Howdy. I have the buyers itch again. Thought I had everything I wanted, and probably do. Have a C-80 and M-80 combo I enjoy a lot. So happy with my set up I moved on to other hobbies. Problem is, I broke my leg last month jet skiing from a rogue wave and gotta get back to the Yamaha work bench before I drown in a boredom beer bath.
Two sellers are parting ways with amps in the thread title and wanted to know your recommendations. I'm either getting another M-80 and bridging it with the existing set up or getting the B-2X to use with a different control amp in my stash. Just looking for opinions and recomendations. Both amps are working. They'll need a re-cap & glue service. Hopefully that's all. I'm familiar with the M-80 but not the B-2X at all.

Question: Does the B-2X run hot all the time? Is it high maintenance with unobtaniums inside?

Sorry about your leg Scape, those rogue waves can be a birch.

If I didn’t already have a B-2, I’d definitely get a B-2x (might still do some day), it has a more detailed sound than M-80, to my ears anyway. Beside, it’s heavier by 3Kg so it must be better … you know how it is.

Also, I’m not aware of any particularly difficult to find parts that went into B-2x that would make them so hard to repair. Someone could/should confirm. B-2x does, however, have speaker terminals that are overly susceptible to damage. I have seen too many with broken/lose/missing/damaged speaker posts/assembly. Oh, and B-2x is a class A amp which means hotter than your usual all class AB amps.

C118 and 119 on the amplifier assemblies. 100,000µf/6.3vdc These need to be almost the exact same dimensions as the OEM parts or smaller in both dia. and length.

Hmmm. I did glance over a couple B-2X threads and noticed C118 & C119 have really bizarre values. My other concerns are the MT-200 output tranny jones. If it's in protection I won't buy it. Decisions decisions, and Yamalust.
 
Ye god man! Due to skyrocketing prices and Yamaflation I'm considering the old Professional grade amps now too!
 
Some of ya'll have suggested VFET amps. Heck, last year I thought VFET was a rap artist. I don't have deep pockets or the equipment on my small bench for that but I consider & appreciate all your advice. I've only heard a third of the things Yamaha made in the golden era so...I'm always listening.

I'll be an empty nester in 5 years or so, maybe I'll evolve to a VFET guy then with more time and $. Unfortunately it's more rewarding to service our family cars than Yammies at this juncture. Heck, they'd rather listen to music on their damned phones while sitting right next to the finest Yamaha stack of separates. But they sure like me saving them auto repair costs so I'll go where the appreciation is at the moment.
I still want the B-2X in my stash though. If Darth Vader had a stereo that would be his amp. I think it sold though, figured it wouldn't last long. F, at least the upgrade itch is gone.

Bored and wanted to brag about my M-80. It has the highest serial# on the back I've seen anywhere. Not a scratch on it. Give it a 9 of 10 due to sellers epoxy fix on the fragile A block speaker terminals. Took a light bonk in past and work fine. I use the B side anyway. I like the ugly old posts and will never swap them.

I read some good threads from ya on the B-2X and saw the video. Good stuff. Question about the unique 100mF, 6.3V fat caps. I found 3 or 4 at digikey between 3 and 4 inches tall. Happen to have any physical size info or some old ones laying around for reference?
