I picked these up for $4.99. Anyone ever heard or seen these. Neat little things. Need new surrounds. Do they make replacements that small? They have a wierd connection on the back.

Hey look... it's an MTM Minimus 7! :D :D :D

That's a standard 4" driver... foam surrounds should be available. I know I can get 'em, at least...

The weird connection on the back is what is known as a DIN speaker plug. If nothing else, you can usually raid an old BMW or VW at the junkyard, and get some of those plugs (they were used to connect speakers to radios on many '70s and '80s German cars). Otherwise, what I usually do, is to go in the cabinet, and parallel a set of standard binding post terminals (drill holes in the cabinet, and mount a pair of banana plug posts, or something like that)...

Regards,
Gordon.

It seem I am having a hard time find the right foam. I may need to replace the drivers :( Anyone know where to look for these?

GordonW should be able to get the surrounds you need. If not him, Re-edger has always been able to get ahold of them, even odd sizes.

Don't replace refoam!!

Excellent little speakers and, as you've seen, fetch pretty good money.

The foam issue nearly always rears its ugly head, though, however i know of plenty of people who have refoamed them so surrounds should be available. It is worth locating and checking with your local Bang & Olufsen dealer, though, as i've heard that there are still some old stock drivers floating around - usually cost about £35 each over here in the UK.

Finally, i would recommend making up an adaptor lead for the connections rather than hacking the cabinet about. If you do this, it will affect originality and hit their value if you decide to sell one day. On the topic of the connections as well, usually with 2 pin DIN speaker connections, the speaker has the female socket and you connect a male inline plug to it, however B&O did it the other way round - yours will have a male connector on the back of them, so you'll need to buy an inline FEMALE socket.

I found two pairs of those at a Salvation Army a year or two ago. All 8 woofers needed surounds. The ones I ended up getting were slightly larger and I had to cut and splice them to fit. It worked fine, but was a pain. The standard 4" surrounds like the ones sold at MAT wouldn't work because of the size of the roll. I ended up having to go to Orange county speaker (I think) and found something that worked. I then asked them to sell them to me single and not in a kit.
I think I posted some info on AK. I will do a search and see if I can find it.

Well, can't seem to find the threads, but the surrounds are not standard 4" or even 3.5". The problem is the spacing between the cone and the frame. Even though the driver is a 3.5", the cone is very small, leaving a larger than usual space between the frame and cone. I would get the exact mesurements of the outside edge of the cone and the diam. of the inside of the frame and call someone who sells a large selection like OC speaker or the above mentioned Re-Edger. You may have to find the closest and modify them as I did. Just make sure you will have enough edge to glue on the cone and frame.

As far as the DIN connectors, I see them all the time on Ebay. I tried B&O and I must say that was a joke. They refered me to the local store, which kept telling me they ordered them for me but after months, never got them in. I gave up after about the 10th call. I also remember seeing them for sale somewhere on line for around 5 bucks.
I sold both pairs. They were ok but, I wasn't too impressed. For the price though, it's a steal!

I have done a refoam like that before. I guess i'll have to do it again. I did find one place that sold a close size, I'll get those and give it a try. I hooked one up briefly, sounded pretty good!
