I listened to a pair recently while demoing a Mcintosh amp (2205) I ended up buying. I was excited when I saw them but honestly wasn’t blown away. There was no preamp in the chain though so that probably had an impact.

The whole time I was there I was thinking “these can sounded better than this” just couldn’t put my finger on what it was. There is a series 1 pair for sale locally, I’ve thought about getting them to see if I’m right but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

I’ve got a set of 804 Matrix and have found these speakers to be super picky about what amps they like. I’d imagine the 801s are similar, just want more power.
When you get it right they are pretty amazing but getting it wrong gives you a pretty unpleasant experience. Also, depending on the series, there’s an optional “bass alignment filler” that is basically an inline eq (goes in the tape loop like a Bose 901 eq) which gives them much better bass response.
It’s really simple, I’ll explain for you. The OP asked a question about MSRP of the B&W 801 and his question was quickly answered. Then, get ready for it, a conversation broke out. @E2

Seems to me the OP wanted to know what the original MSRP was for an item.
Been there myself, usually after buying something then trying to learn more about it, stupid stuff like specs or what it sold for new.
Not sure why some are confused. Seems pretty straight forward to me.
Many times, yearly buying guides like those put out by Stereo Review or other publications might have a small blurb about main stream products (or occasionally not so main stream) with the price listed.
