B&W Owners Thread

I've got a pair of DM610s, currently awaiting a recap.

And....., I've got a pair of early DW13 woofers from the DM70 model (based on an EMI design)

These are doing LF duty in a pair of home-built open baffles. Nice bass!

I heard the Matrix 800s in the late 80s-early 90s several times at the now defunct Altair Audio in Albany, NY, driven by various Krell, Theta, Classe', VPI, and so on. It's a shame that you have to put them in such a small area because you haven't heard what they can do until they have a large room.

On the right one of my N803s circa 1999-2000 that I bought new from Clark Music in Albany before they also went tits up. They sounded great with the REL Stentor III sub but I'm more into JBL sound now.

Some years ago I have a pair of Matrix 805's. Nowadays, I have a pair of B&W "waffle-back" bookshelf speakers, but I don't know the model number. They replaced the stock speakers of a Sony micro stereo. I have so little enthusiasm for Japanese speakers that I did not even listen to the Sony speakers.

Yes I am aware. These are not in my main listening area because that too is not large enough. They were an unplanned purchase. I came across them at a Value Village at a price that I could not pass up on. Will probably try to move them on shortly to someone who hopefully has the space.
 
Oh yeah, I get it about "a price that I could not pass up on", especially with a model like the Matrix 800. You just have to buy them. I've had big panels like Logan CLS II's and Maggie 2.6's and Tympani IV-D's in small apartments.

I grew up around dads sound system which had a pair of B&W DM-16 floorstanders which he got new. Their top of the line speakers in 1981. They feature in my earliest memories. I rescued them from rotting away in his garage and they're now in my main sound system powered by a Chinese valve amp. Sounds better than it ever did with his old Denon integrated amp. :)

Those 602s were my first B&W, and I have since upgraded to some 805N's. It was a rather significant jump, but the 602s are a great bang for your buck. I haven't been able to part with mine - they're safely in storage and may see a return to action in the basement system on day.

The amount of cash you have to part with to get a significant jump is what has stopped me, I was hoping I could get the same kind of jump you get from a typical $300 set, to what I got with the $600 602s. Law of diminishing returns sets in quickly with B&W.
 
I felt the same way which is why I bought my 805's 2nd hand. A top of the line speaker from a few years ago, is still a top of the line speaker and generally an audiophile will baby their gear.

Financially speaking I went from the 602s that cost me $400 (CDN) to the 805N's that cost me $1400 (CDN). If I had turned around and sold the 602's then I would've been in good shape. Like any audio-nut I hang onto them because I can't bear to let them go, although I really should.
 
I have 601 s2 bookshelves and some bigger 683 speakers. I'm of the mind that there is indeed "trickle down" value for B&W speakers where some of the top end technology rubs off on their other models.

You must be referring to the DM-302 I presume.
 
Have a set of DM110 that I like a lot. They're so smooth and effortless. My only beef is you can't play them very loud before they start to break up a bit. I'd love to get my hands on one of the bigger models, the DM220 or 330. I'm basically on the lookout for anything B&W and affordable these days.
 
I'd really love a pair of DM7s in rosewood to go with my Luxman R-1120 receiver. I recently moved back to Australia after a couple of years living in the UK. I spent the entire time on the lookout for a pair in good condition but nothing came up. It's probably a good thing as they aren't exactly light weight or easy to pack and ship. However, I did ship back a few pairs of the DM303's and an LCR3 to use in a 7.1 surround set-up. I'll team them up with the ASW1000 sub that I picked up second hand over here. It had a fault with the amp that was simple enough to sort out. Other than that I do have a set of DM110's. I still don't have accommodation that is permanent enough to get it all set up in unfortunately.
