B & W Pics

I like the high contrast going on. Very punchy and in your face. How do they look printed?

They look pretty good printed. This is a techniqe that I have developed using the gradient map in PS. It is found under adustments. If you click on it, there will be various little squares, that show the different variations of effects that can be used. I like to use the black and white or steel variations. Once you click on one of the boxes you will see the effect on your picture. If you click above the box a scale with sliders will appear that will allow you to manipulate the effects on your image.
I like using this as it allows me to make a B&W image like you said, more punchier like the old time B&W film images. Converting color images to B&W ones using gray scale just looks to bland to me.
It took a lot of experimentation on my part using this technique and sometimes I have to play with an image for a while to get the effects I want. But that's one of the things I like about PS, playing with the different tools to see what I can get them to do. :scratch2:

I like the B&W guys! I recently gave up crying over all the old Minolta gear I spent so much money on and went cheap DSLR with a Sony Alpa 230. Lots of cheap Maxxum lenses out there anyway I hope to see more B&W here. :thmbsp:

Dpastern, Those are some great shots! I love the heavy use of contrast, just right for the mood. First two shots are superb! What city is the 3rd?

Dangit!!! Every time I see the name of this thread, I think it's gonna be pictures of British speakers that look like giant snails.

There could and should be B&W speakers in this thread, as long as the photos are in black & white.

This is from a digital shot. I used the default black and white conversion in irfanview, then adjusted the contrast. The original flowers are white and the background is not very colorful either, so filters (either real or in Photoshop) would not do much.

Just downloaded irfanview today. Very simple and nice, how are you liking it?

Aww! Got it. To me looks like a Green filter on regular B&W film, or an Orange filter on B&W InfraRed film. Which camera/lens system are you using? :thmbsp:
