Shop around for lowest price. I found it for $199 with free shipping. Do a Google search.
Is it anything special you ask?
It's just a good CD player at a low price. It's performance is surprising good at its price.

Thanks for the head’s up, I just waved one in from Electronic Express, $199.99 with free shipping. Plenty of positive commentary here on AK over the years regarding this CDP. Needed something to tide me over for a while until i give up my apartment and am reunited with the rest of my stereo equipment.

I bought a used one about a couple weeks ago and I must say I'm impressed. I have never owned a "real" CD player before and I immediately heard a huge difference. Very happy I bought it!

As a side-note, I've read that Onkyo replaced the Wolfson DAC with another type in the later production C-7030's. I haven't opened mine to see for myself, but mine is dated Oct. 2016, which I believe was before it was changed in 2017.

My Onkyo DX-7555 has the Wolfson DAC. Bought it several years ago thinking it would surely sound better than the cheap Pioneer I had been using. It didn't. It's not at all bad, but for the price I paid, I expected much better. However a decent (Modi/Multibit) stand alone DAC, or even a cheaper (Modi3) greatly improved things.

I believe you should try different cables and recordings before judging. Many others dont agree with your conclusion. I got mine a year ago and I love it.

Not judging. Just giving my opinion.

And yes, I have tried different cables (standard monster type, DIY Belden RG59 and DIY Mogami W2534), and a plethora of recordings. The rest of the system is a Sansui AU-919 driving a pair of Ascend Acoustic, Sierra 2's.

DX-7555 or C-7030?

The 919? Awsome! That's what I have.:)

I have no idea what kind of chip is in my onkyo. Wolfson or what.
The electrolytic caps say TK AUDIO on them.

According to my limited research, the DX-7555 uses a Wolfson WM8740 DAC chip. The C-7030 uses a Wolfson WM8718 DAC chip. The chip is only a part of the sound. How it's implemented/the associated circuitry contributes much.

Again, I'm not saying that the DX-7555 sounds bad. Just that it sounds much better played through a separate DAC.

I will post more photos if needed.
What is the chip in my photo?

I believe that's the processor. Your DAC chip will look something like this. (Picture is for the WM8740, but the WM8718 should be similar.)
