BadassBob's flea system

Well folks, I was finally able to finish my cabinets this week with the streak of nice weather we've been having. I put it off for a good 2 months because it was just too darn cool and rainy for the paint to stick. Theyre finished with spray-in bed liner. I lined the area around with driver with 1/2" denim insulation, as well as put a sheet on the top and bottom. The cabinets are very well braced and pass the knock-knock test quite well, much better than the Tekton cabinets. These have a much fuller sound than the Tektons, as well as deeper bass. When I finished mounting the driver in one speaker, I ran it side by side with one of the Tektons...much better. This leads me to believe the bass in the Tektons goes somewhere in the realm of 55 to 60Hz. My uneducated guess would say these cabs hit ~40Hz. Overall, Im pretty darn happy with em :).

Nice! Like the Flag, too ;)

Hey Bob, did you build the SS rectifrier? I see that Ed over at diytube put up a post about using one for driving different tubes, is it the same deal?

No, mine is a Weber Copper Cap. Ive been thinking abut building Ed's SS rectifier though for when I run 300Bs. The SS rectifier is too much for NOS 6B4Gs, but the Sovteks have no problem.

Yeah, I read that. If I ever get the scratch for new Sovteks, I think I'll go that way. Still on Disability...prolly be another 6 months or so...such is life!

Lovely looking system! The amp, and particularly in that softly lit photo, is a thing of beauty.
I also like the new/old mixture.

How did I miss this system? Nice gear, your amp is a beauty. I'm interested in the music server too. I need to build a server for all my FLAC files, laptop sound card is no good. Is the Vortexbox basically a PC?

My Vortexbox is housed in a mini-ITX barebone system, which uses a dual core Intel Atom CPU with 2GB of RAM. The CPU is embedded on to the motherboard, so all I really had to add was memory, DVD-ROM, and a hard drive. Mine has a 1TB Western Digital Green.

Thanks for posting the pictures.

Back in the day, who'd a thunk that somebody would be posting a computer card as part of a high end rig? That is awesome. Love progress.
