Bands Named After Food

Elderberry Jak
Bran
After Tea
Acme Sausage Co
Banana
Black Coffee

These examples are included in a Prog & Psych LPs dealer's list I've had lying around since the early 80s. There are probably one or two dozen more on the list, as naming bands after "food" (and animals) was quite popular among the prog & psych crowd, late 60s--mid 70s.

Yellow Matter Custard (Beatles Tribute band)
Phish
Captain Beefheart
Lemon Antennas (My band's old name)

Doc Audio's former band's name reminds me of another:

Lemon Jelly (the British electronica outfit)

"I don't thing the Mary Jane Girls were named after the candy. Their producer and mentor Rick James was a well known marijuana smoker, and Mary Jane is slang for cannabis. Remember his song, "Mary Jane" ? The lyrics go "I'm in love with Mary Jane. She's my main thing. She makes me feel alright. She makes my heart sing". She likes to spread her love and turn your head around". It was a given the song was about marijuana, not some girl named Mary Jane, and not candy."

Some name/food relationships are purely coincidental?? Gosh, thanks for clearing that up...
While we're on the subject, I suppose you would want the following retracted because they were not named for a food:

Wings – Paul McCartney thought of the name while waiting in the maternity “wing” of a hospital
Phish – a takeoff on drummer John Fishman’s last name
O’Jays – named after Cleveland disc jockey Eddie O’Jay
Canned Heat – taken from Tommy Johnson's 1928 song "Canned Heat Blues"
Sandy Bull – an American folk musician who died in 2001

Orange Juice is the best of the food bands, hands down, but marqueemoon got them. This thread is already pretty comprehensive...

Definitely food:
BBQ
Bit 'a Sweet
Gravy Train
Hazel Nuts Chocolate
Hot Chip
Lambchop (and also Lamb, sort of)
The Lemonheads
The Mighty Lemon Drops
Lutefisk
Sugar
Pink Lemonade (if you know what this is, shutup, it counts)

Questionable:
Saccharine Trust
The Cakekitchen
The Flesh Eaters (?)
Shrimp Boat
Lunchbox

Fine Young Cannibals (well to another cannibal)

They might prefer a plate of the "Grateful Dead" themselves. Probably taste better than a "Zombie".

Okay back to serious business. :D Mostly local bands.

Rotel and the Hot Tomatoes

The Gourds

Duck Soup

The Eggmen

Hotcakes

I don't believe Ram Jam references food either.

How about Marshmallow Peeps?

Pearl Jam

The band is fine, what they're named after...
