Bands With One Good Song

I spent a couple of years working nights at an oldies station. The library was incredible...all the hits, of course, plus a ton of obscurities and just about everything ever released by a TwinCities/Upper Midwest band. Needless to say I had a ball. Plus, the station's music policy was pretty loose to say the least..."Sure, bring it from home and if it fits the format give it a spin!" One local recording I gave a bunch of play was "Of Paupers And Poets" by White Lightning. Classic. Another super-obscure Midwest number was "Dirty Old Man" by The Electras...a fuzz-laden treat if there ever was one. "Cruisin' around--drivng his XKE" complete with tire squeals. And, from the record vault under my back stairs came one of my all-time faves: "Natural Man" by the Marcus Hook Roll Band. A Vanda/Young confection that opens with three chords and takes off from there. Those two knew how to write a song...see Easybeats for reference along with Flash & The Pan and other projects.
