Barn find Sansui AU-7900

I wish I could know for sure.
Also I’m most definitely hearing an audible sizzle sound coming from the power switch when VR01 is turned up now. When it’s turned down I don’t hear the noise. But it sounds like faint eggs frying in a pan. No smoke. No smell. Coming from area pictured. (Unit is upside down).

I’ve been playing around with this for a few days and I’ve noticed a few patterns. When VR01 is adjusted into the exact same position as VR02, the DBT dims flawlessly without flickering and the relay clicks on. BUT if I leave it sit for a few minutes like that and try to measure bias on VR01, nothing registers on the MM but it also clicks the relay back off. Just wondering if maybe this might mean something to you? The relay clicks off as soon as I touch the red lead of the MM to the white resistor
