Basic tuner antenna?

Hi guys. You will have to forgive me, but in some ways I am a rank beginner.

Hoping someone will give me a basic overview of adding an antenna to my tuner. My Onyko has option for both 75 ohm and 300 ohm FM antenna.

Thanks!

depending on the connectors on the Onkyo, there are a lot of options. If you give a model number, we can give you more info. I use a very simple dipole antenna with speaker wire into the 75 ohm connectors on my tuner.

Thanks for responding. The Receiver is a TX-4500 MkII. There are screw connections for the antenna connections. I will google dipole antenna next.

What is the difference between the 300 and 75 ohm antenna options?

I've had real good reception from old standard rabbit ears type TV antennas. Dirt cheap in the local thrift store. Somewhat directional, turn it for best reception. Not much for looks though.

I actually wouldn't terribly mind the look of some classic rabbit ears. Haven't seen a pair in a decade though. I'll keep my eyes open in the thrift.

I was rooting around the back of this thing, and noticed a big plastic hole in the back of the receiver. Looks like an antenna went there at some point?

You can get rabbit ears off of the Bay for about $5. That is what I use and they work great. Sometimes they need a slight adjustment.

I have mine high up on the wall.
