Bathroom Speakers

OK, come on, 30 years ago I dreamed of owning a pair of these. and when I had them 25 years later (they where a gift from my best friend) and replaced the 1100vlt transformer in the active EQ to a respectable 220vlt'er for European norm. (shelled out 25 bucks for the transformer because I didn't want to hear them with any other distract noise) I realized that I really was better off without. OK,
for a really,really large room maybe they sound better. Butt, in my house? I had a pair of 301's that I liked, (also sold) But, again they where not so bad.

It is like winning the lottery, Once you have what you always wanted, It is not how you thought it would be. I guess :scratch2:

Hey, Ive never even heard 901's, so I have no place to talk. I think they actually look quite nice. I was just being a sarcastic bonehead, as usual. Besides that, I am actually interested in finding a good set of in-ceiling bathroom speakers. I'll need them as soon as I start building that bathroom in the basement, 20-35 years out probably.

I love listening to music like everyone else here in the forum, And at my age all I want to hear is a few (1-5) watts, (and the five is pushing it a bit) with a simple, clean sound. These 901's in my opinion cannot be used in a room the size of a one, but maybe a two car garage. (never tried it) I am your everyday "joe Fud" that just want's his beer and the evening paper at the end of the day.
My next step is a tube amp with a few watts (an old 35watt crown would be nice :D and some simple speakers. (that would be the hardest to find. or not?)


And of course with a selector switch for the BOSE in the bathroom!!!!!!!!!:yes:
 
Seek weather-resistant speakers for use in high humidity conditions of the bathroom. JBL Control series is one example with integral "omni" mounts.... :yes:
 
Aha! Realistic Minimus 7's that's the second time I heard that!

The contol LA's (been there, done that, not bad but I don't have them any more.)
 
Of course the acoustics of an average bathroom are quite interesting, even my shower radio sounds not too bad.

There are plenty of small outdoor speakers that are quite good. I have some very cheap KLH ones that are not too bad.

I see that you are in Germany, so mains voltage will probably be around 230V and German regulations may not allow portable mains appliances in the bathroom.

Indeed if that is so and you use them (apart from the very real danger) you may invalidate any household insurance that you have.

Earlier, someone suggested a car stereo, that seems a reasonable idea along with some small outdoor speakers. It could be driven from a AC to DC adapter located outside the bathroom.
 
So I can't get any "minimus 7's" over here in Germany but this is what is going in the bathroom in stead of the Bose!

A little smaller than the JBL's

J ust B athroom L audspeakers.

(Sorry, We can't just crack on others here)

They even have a spot for a JBL Logo that's blank! and only costed about 35 bucks! But the specks look ok. Good enough for a shower and a shave. :D

The wife doesn't understand why I need speakers in there but I am sure that she will use them when she is doing laundry!!

As long as they cover up the sub-tones at about 35hz that come from way down deep in me!!!

But they go up pretty High too! (for the squeeking moments)
 
Just keep off the beans!

I would not recommend a tube amp or electrostatic speakers in there!

Though it may make life entertaining (while it lasts!)
 
One day, Yes one day I will be able to talk the wife into a real amp.

The furthest I have gotten is a "Tube pre-amp To solide state Amp" as the kitchen radio!!!!

Please, don't ask...:D
 
My thoughts are that transistors are fine at the front end (as they will be running in class A) tubes for the output.

My best Hi Fi purchase is the tube amp in my avatar, Radford STA25 III, purchased used about 35 years ago. nothing has ever gone wrong with it, sounds better than any solid state amp that I have tried (and I have tried a lot, and still have most of them).
 
Well, I got my new little speakers and??? I think this winter I am going to build my own :D

I think that is the best way to go!

Bummer, the JBL's don't sound good? What don't you like about them?

I'm still trying to think of the best way to incorporate some speakers in a yet to be bathroom. I'm thinking I will use the wall cavity as my box, and go from there.

Let me know what you come up with!

Oh, They are not JBL's If they where the would sound better. I think It is the plastic housing that they are in. They sound tinny!
